About Us
My Financial Partner (MFP) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Teamshares Inc., a national, mission-driven company helping small businesses across the U.S. become employee-owned. We bring the tools and support of large-scale businesses to small companies — starting with employee stock ownership.
At MFP, our experienced team of accounting professionals delivers high-quality, fractional accounting support to a growing network of Teamshares companies. As part of this dynamic group, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of small business owners and employee-owners across the country.

The Role

    • We’re looking for a Controller to join our growing team, focused on supporting a portfolio of companies within the Retail Industry. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll partner closely with company presidents and employee-owners to drive financial clarity, optimize operations, and support long-term strategic success.
    • You’ll be responsible for the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, inventory oversight, and advising leadership teams—while identifying opportunities for improved systems, processes, and profitability.

What You'll Do

    • Strategic Client Partnership
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to multiple small business presidents, tailoring your financial insights to each company’s operations.
    • Leverage your deep retail experience to provide guidance on cost control, tax planning, inventory management, and financial forecasting.
    • Translate financial data into actionable recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
    • Financial Operations & Oversight
    • Lead full-cycle accounting operations including A/P, A/R, GL, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
    • Manage month-end and year-end closes, including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, fixed asset entries, and deferred revenue adjustments.
    • Regularly review trial balances and income statement classifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with US GAAP.
    • Maintain a 13-week cash flow forecast and recommend solutions to mitigate shortfalls.
    • Reporting & Analysis
    • Submit trial balances and variance analyses using OneStream reporting tools.
    • Collaborate with company leadership on budget preparation and quarterly/annual strategic plans.
    • Deliver key performance metrics and highlight trends affecting business performance.
    • Process Improvement & Controls
    • Identify and implement process improvements across accounting systems and reporting workflows.
    • Assist in developing internal controls and documenting financial procedures.
    • Optimize the chart of accounts and streamline inventory accounting practices.

Who You Are

    • A proactive, hands-on Controller who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, small business environment.
    • A strong communicator who can translate complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
    • A self-starter who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and rolling up your sleeves when needed.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
    • 5+ years of experience in a Controller or Senior Accounting role
    • Retail industry accounting experience required (multi-location a plus)
    • Experience in small to medium sized businesses; fractional or outsourced accounting background a plus
    • Strong experience with inventory accounting and operational finance
    • Tech-savvy and resourceful; thrives in a remote, fast-moving, startup-like environment
    • Comfortable with a hands-on role that includes both strategic and tactical work
    • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and POS systems
    • Working knowledge of US GAAP

Tools You'll Use

    • QuickBooks Online & POS systems
    • NetSuite ERP
    • OneStream (for reporting and consolidations)
    • Bill.com (AP)
    • Gusto (Payroll)
    • Asana (Project/task management)
    • Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel & Teams)

Benefits

    • Competitive salary

    • 19 company holidays
    • 5 sick days
    • 1 floating holiday of your choice
    • Ongoing development through access to Teamshares’ experts in small business accounting and finance
    • The opportunity to support real employee ownership in America’s small businesses
