Teck’s Assurance & Advisory (A&A) team is seeking a dynamic and experienced 
Manager, Assurance & Advisory
 to join our high-performing internal audit function. This role is a critical backfill for a long-tenured leader and offers a unique opportunity to make an immediate impact. Based in Vancouver, Canada, and reporting to the Vice President, A&A, the successful candidate will be a key member of the A&A Leadership Team—helping shape and deliver our risk-based internal audit plan. We are looking for a passionate and results-oriented internal audit professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will be expected to hit the ground running, taking ownership of a portfolio of audits and assurance reviews across Teck’s global operations, development projects, and enterprise functions. Your ability to lead with confidence, build strong relationships, and deliver high-quality insights will be essential to our mission of enhancing risk management, internal controls, and governance across Teck.

, delivering timely and actionable risk, control, and governance insights and foresights that support Teck’s strategic objectives of core excellence and resilience. Operating as a multidisciplinary team, we provide independent, objective assurance services—including audits of Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) and Disclosure Controls & Procedures (DC&P)— in alignment with Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

    • Be a courageous safety leader that champions a culture of safety, ethics, and psychological safety across all engagements and interactions.
    • Support the A&A team in maintaining alignment of its mission, objectives, and activities with Teck’s overall corporate strategy.
    • Oversee and perform detailed reviews of the full audit lifecycle—from planning and risk assessment to fieldwork, reporting, and customer communication – for a portfolio of operational, compliance, and strategic audits across mining/smelting operations, development projects, and enterprise functions (e.g., Finance, IT, Legal, Sustainability, HR).
    • Deliver objective and balanced evaluations to enhance risk management, internal controls, and governance processes.
    • Conduct audits in accordance with departmental procedures and Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS).
    • Assist in quality reviews and oversight of other critical engagements, as needed, including ICFR and DC&P audits.
    • Lead diverse project teams with adaptability, applying appropriate leadership styles to achieve desired outcomes.
    • Manage engagement budgets and coordinate internal and external resources, including co-sourced consultants and subject matter experts.
    • Invest in team development to deepen understanding of Teck’s operations, the broader mining industry, and global audit trends; cultivate risk-awareness, technical excellence, critical thinking across broad and emerging topic areas, such as ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
    • Provide regular coaching and feedback, support individual growth plans, and ensure performance expectations for direct reports are clearly communicated and aligned with team and organizational goals.
    • Lead or support initiatives that enhance the focus, rigour, and impact of A&A services.
    • Track and evaluate management’s actions in response to identified risks.
    • Support the VP, A&A in developing the annual risk-based internal audit plan and preparing quarterly reports for the Audit Committee.
    • Collaborate with other internal assurance functions to optimize coverage and reduce audit fatigue across departments.

Qualifications: Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
    • Professional certification(s), such as: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
    • 8+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, external audit, risk management, or related roles.
    • Strong command of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), risk assessment methodologies, and audit standards (e.g., Global Internal Audit Standards)
    • At least 2–3 years in a people leadership or managerial role, with demonstrated experience leading audit teams and managing complex engagements.
    • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with senior leadership and operational teams.
    • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA or Master’s in a relevant field) is an asset.
    • Experience in the mining, natural resources, or heavy industrial sectors is highly desirable.
    • Proficiency in Spanish (oral and written) is an asset.

    • Embraces feedback and change with resilience. Continuously seeks to grow knowledge of the mining industry, internal audit practices, and organizational context.
    • Applies curiosity and structured thinking to analyze complex issues, manage ambiguity, and develop innovative, practical solutions.
    • Builds strong relationships with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver high-quality, value-added assurance services.
    • Understands and applies internal controls, risk management, and compliance frameworks and regulations (e.g., COSO, ISO, COBIT, SOX, NI 53-109). Applies analysis, ethical judgments, and pragmatism to establish support for recommended solutions.
    • Interprets financial and operational data to identify key drivers and opportunities for improvement. Supports continuous improvement through insight and analysis.
    • Understands the role of technology in risk, internal controls, and governance and is able to understand Teck’s technology landscape. Uses data to generate insights and support decision-making. Experience with tools like Power BI is an asset.
    • Familiarity with the mining or extractive industries and their associated risks is a strong advantage.

Qualifications: Environmental and Physical Demands

    • Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations and at time may have to work longer than standard work hours during peak periods to meet deadlines.
    • Expected travel can range from 5% to 30% per annum and some work will be at high altitude (requiring an altitude test), with operating sites and administration offices primarily located in Canada, the U.S., Chile and Peru, and must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive.
$140,000 - $170,000 a year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
