Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Water Resource Engineer.
Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site
Responsibilities:
•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    Protect the safety and health of employees by promoting safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Teck Alaska policy and appropriate regulations
•    Complete assigned work in a professional manner, including necessary measurements, calculations, analyses, interpretations, reporting and recommendations
•    Ensure that projects associated with the Tailings Storage Facility and Water Resources Management are completed according to approved plans, specifications and development codes/permits
•    Assist in managing site’s water resources and water quality, including maintenance and updates to the operational water balance, development of water management plans, ensuring adherence to Teck’s Water Governance initiatives, updating and maintaining water quality mass balances & predictions, and assessment of ARD interception
•    Aggregate, organize, manage, and analyze data on groundwater, surface water, subsurface water, pumping, climate, demographics, etc., typically in a GIS/database environment (Esri ArcGIS)
•    Develop and maintain water and load balance models in Goldsim
•    Water quality and predictive water quality modeling (geochemical modeling, geochemist workbench, PHREEQC) 
•    Contaminant transport prediction (in conjunction with soil and ground water models)
•    Data manipulation/analysis in spreadsheets, databases, and GIS using automation techniques such as macros, VBA, Perl, Python
•    Characterize acid rock drainage and metals leaching potential
•    Communicate effectively with operating, geology, technical groups and contractors; and liaise with outside agencies to meet the operations overall objectives
•    Conduct hydrologic modelling, as required, for various site facilities using GoldSim and other relevant software
•    Participate in developing junior professionals, technicians, and other team members by participating in their selection, training, evaluating their performance, and by following, enforcing and administering company policies in a fair and equitable manner
•    Develop an understanding of the Company’s organization and how to get things done within it
•    Other responsibilities as required or as assigned
External Job Description
Qualifications:
•    Bachelors degree in Engineering (water resources, environmental, processing, geotechnical, metallurgical, chemical) or Science (hydrology, geochemistry, hydrogeology)
•    Minimum of ten (10) years (15 years preferred) of relevant experience in water resources management and/or hydrology/hydrogeology studies that included evaluation of water quantity and quality at mine sites
•    Demonstrate leadership experience within the last five years
•    Consult with safety, management, operations and external contractors on assigned projects
•    Good grasp of key geochemical concepts related to metals leaching and water treatment
•    Exposure to mining in cold climates is considered an asset, but is not required 
•    Demonstrate proficiency in the use and application of geochemical analysis and water balance software.  Demonstrated ability to organize, manipulate, and efficiently visualize large quantities of water related data
•    Knowledge of best practices in Sustainability Management including water management, land management, closure of mine sites, biodiversity in reclamation projects, and State of Alaska regulations of land and closure 
•    Previous experience setting a budget, cost tracking and cost forecasting  
•    Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and communication skills.  Strong attention to detail
•    Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.  Excelling in a fast paced work environment including leading change, making recommendations and decision making
•    Capable of working with all levels of the organization and in a team environment
•    Self-starter with willingness to take on additional tasks as required
