We are specifically looking for a student with a background in Mining or Geotechnical engineering. The successful candidate must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds. This student will be
responsible
for mine assignments and projects as assigned by the Principal Mine Engineer. They may be assigned duties and/or projects related to drilling and blasting, short range mine planning and construction projects.
If you are not currently located in the area of this internship, you must be willing to relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the internship. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the internship is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Responsibilities
- Participation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
- Collaborate with engineering and operations for assistance in the development of daily, weekly and monthly mine operations plans
- Contribute to a wide range of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, traditionally operated fleets, production scheduling, and optimization
- Coordinate drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services to mine production and other mine site departments
- Monitor and perform analyses of operating areas, work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and operating procedures
- Support the development, tracking, and reporting of compliance of mine permits
- Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation
- Build and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering is preferred. A background in Geotechnical, Geological or Civil Engineering is an asset
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
- Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
- Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and Windows environment with advanced proficiency in MS Excel
- Experience in an open pit mine (operationally or in an Engineering capacity) would be considered a significant asset. Working exposure to industrial environments would also be an asset
- Experience with Minesight or other mine planning software suite is an asset
