As a Senior Product Owner, you will play a pivotal role in our Agile development process, acting as the bridge between our customers, stakeholders, and the development team. Your primary responsibility will be to define and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring that our development efforts are aligned with the strategic goals of the organization and delivering maximum value to our customers. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology and execution, and who is passionate about building products that enable global connectivity.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Product Vision: Develop and communicate a clear vision for the product, ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy and customer needs.
- Backlog Management: Prioritize and maintain the product backlog, ensuring that it accurately reflects the priorities of the business and provides the development team with a clear understanding of what needs to be built.
- Requirement Gathering: Work closely with stakeholders to gather and document requirements, ensuring that all user stories are clear, concise, and actionable.
- User Story Definition: Break down high-level requirements into actionable user stories, including detailed acceptance criteria and acceptance tests.
- Release Planning: Collaborate with the development team to plan and prioritize releases, balancing the need for new features with the need for stability and maintenance.
- Team Collaboration: Act as the primary point of contact between the development team and stakeholders, facilitating communication and ensuring that everyone is aligned on priorities and expectations.
- Quality Assurance: Work closely with the QA team to ensure that all user stories meet the required quality standards before they are released to production.
- Customer Feedback: Gather feedback from customers and stakeholders and incorporate it into the product backlog, ensuring that the product continues to evolve to meet changing needs and market conditions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience: Over 10 years experience in software development, Product Owner or similar role in an Agile development environment with a strong focus on satellite communications or modem development
- Domain Knowledge: Understanding of modem technologies, modulation and coding, air interfaces, and software development tools such as containerization, virtualization and cloud technology
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly understand complex requirements and prioritize them effectively.
- Leadership: Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to drive consensus and make tough decisions when necessary.
- Certification: Preferred certification in Agile methodologies (e.g., Certified Scrum Product Owner).
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of software development processes and technologies.
- Industry Knowledge: modem development in satellite communication systems, aero market industry knowledge a plus
DECISION MAKING & SUPERVISION:
- This role has no direct reports, but will work and interact with multi-disciplinary engineering, teams.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be legally able work in the US or Canada, ideally to be able to work from Telesat’s Bethesda, Maryland or Ottawa, Canada office (if based in Canada, candidate must be able to obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP)).
- Travel to Canada/US and international travel is anticipated; therefore, candidates will need to maintain an up-to-date passport and remain legally able to travel internationally
