The Telesat Systems Engineering organization covers the discipline of architecting, requirements definition, design trades, change control, integration and test, and constellation system verification.
Reporting to the Vice-President, LEO System Engineering, the Technical System Program Manager will manage system engineering development, integration and test, and verification activities in developing and maintaining appropriate reports on progress and schedule. Working closely with the Program Management Office, the candidate will be the interface between the system engineering team and the rest of the program organization as it related to program planning and reporting.
Main Responsibilities
- Act as primary interface between the LEO system engineering team and the program management office.
- Using inputs from the System engineering team, build and maintain work breakdown structure and associated schedule for all system engineering activities.
- Establish forecasts for anticipated schedule or technical issues.
- Develop and report performance metrics to the program management office.
- Provide clear direction and general guidance to system engineering teams as it relates to deliverables and milestones expected from the team.
- Develop and implement business processes initiatives to optimize engineering operations in accordance with the program objectives.
Education and Experience Required
- B. Sc. in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or System Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in satellite communications.
- Demonstrated experience in program management of complex satellite systems or subsystems.
- Must be a confident communicator and presenter.
- Must be able to balance multiple aspects of the project, changes and priorities simultaneously.
- Superior project management and time management skills with a wide degree of creativity and flexibility.
- Experience with scheduling tools / platforms such as Oracle Primavera or MS Project
- Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management
- Good understanding of satellite communication
- Proficient with general office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to adapt to a variety of other software databases.
- Atlassian tool suite experience would make an ideal candidate.
- Fluent in English, written and oral. French is an asset.
Decision making and Supervision:
- In this role, the incumbent will issue recommendations and have influence on the system design of the Telesat LEO system and on the software design of the Telesat Lightspeed System Model.
- This role has no direct reports.
Working Conditions:
- Working conditions are generally comfortable typical of an office environment
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP)
