We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Compliance Associate to join our team in the medical cannabis industry, a highly regulated sector. The ideal candidate will ensure the organization adheres to all federal, state, and local regulations related to the cultivation, production, and distribution of medical marijuana. This role is pivotal in maintaining the company’s legal standing, operational efficiency, and commitment to ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local regulations relevant to the medical marijuana industry.
- Ensure organizational policies and procedures align with applicable regulatory requirements and licensing mandates.
- Documentation and Recordkeeping
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of compliance activities, including licenses, audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions.
- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies on time.
- Training and Communication
- Assist in developing and delivering compliance training programs to staff, ensuring they understand regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Act as a point of contact for regulatory inquiries and internal compliance questions.
- Audit and Inspection Support
- Coordinate and prepare for internal compliance reviews and inspections.
- Support external audits conducted by regulatory authorities, ensuring all requirements are met.
- Policy Development and Implementation
- Collaborate with department leaders to develop, update, and enforce compliance policies, procedures, and standard operating practices (SOPs).
- Conduct routine assessments to ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards.
- Incident Management
- Investigate and report compliance violations or breaches, recommending and overseeing the implementation of corrective actions.
- State Tracking Systems
- Manage and update information in state-mandated tracking systems (e.g., Sage or seed-to-sale systems), ensuring full accuracy and compliance.
- Continuous Monitoring and Updates
- Stay informed about changes in laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Proactively communicate updates to the team and implement necessary adjustments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with departments such as legal, operations, and quality assurance to integrate compliance into daily workflows.
- Support licensing and permitting processes to ensure ongoing compliance with local and state requirements.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, Compliance, Public Policy, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, or a similar role within the medical marijuana industry or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience working with Texas-specific regulatory frameworks (if applicable) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local laws governing the medical cannabis industry.
- Familiarity with seed-to-sale tracking systems and regulatory reporting tools is preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Must meet any eligibility criteria set forth by regulatory authorities.
- Ability to pass background checks and meet state-specific requirements for employment in the medical cannabis industry.
- Availability to travel locally as needed for audits, inspections, or compliance-related activities.
$50,000 - $75,000 a year
