About The Dispatch:
At a time of growing industry uncertainty and an alarming erosion of civic discourse, The Dispatch stands out as a platform for thoughtful coverage, respectful dialogue, and a wildly engaged community of paying members. We bring a perspective—we’re right-of-center—but we’re fiercely independent, standing apart from media outlets increasingly engaged in partisan boosterism. Started in 2019 by Steve Hayes, the editor-in-chief of The Weekly Standard, and Jonah Goldberg, editor at National Review, The Dispatch has filled a valuable gap in the media ecosystem as captured by articles in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, and other publications.
Overview:
The Dispatch is seeking a strategic and experienced Vice President of Multimedia to oversee and expand our suite of podcasts: The Dispatch Podcast, Advisory Opinions, The Remnant, and The Skiff. This senior role will be responsible for setting and executing the creative vision for our audio programming while leading efforts to deepen audience engagement through video, live events, and multiplatform storytelling. The VP of Multimedia will manage internal staff and contractors, work closely with podcast hosts, and collaborate across editorial, marketing, product, and membership teams to ensure The Dispatch’s multimedia presence is compelling, consistent, and primed for growth.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full production lifecycle of The Dispatch’s podcasts, from development to final publication, ensuring excellence in content, pacing, and sound design.
- Lead the creative evolution of our shows, refining formats, building out recurring features, and supporting hosts with editorial direction and guest development.
- Manage and grow a team of audio and video producers, editors, and freelancers to ensure timely, high-quality, multiplatform output.
- Expand our video strategy by adapting podcast content for YouTube and other visual platforms, including video-first segments, livestreams, and short-form clips optimized for social media.
- Spearhead audience development efforts by identifying and executing strategies to grow listenership and viewership, including through cross-promotion, platform optimization, newsletter integration, and paid media.
- Coordinate podcast marketing efforts with the editorial and audience teams to promote episodes across newsletters, social, paid channels, and The Dispatch website.
- Develop and execute a vision for live and event-based podcasting, including recording shows in front of live audiences at Dispatch events or external venues.
- Lead planning and production of special series, seasonal projects, and long-form audio storytelling initiatives.
- Track and analyze podcast and video performance using key metrics, and use insights to drive decision-making and improve audience engagement.
- Maintain production calendars, workflows, and budgets to ensure efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.
- Stay ahead of trends in podcasting, video content, live events, and digital journalism to identify new opportunities for innovation and growth.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in podcasting, multimedia journalism, or digital content production, including 3+ years in a leadership role managing teams and strategy.
- Proven success in growing podcast and/or video audiences, ideally within a media, news, or membership-driven organization.
- Deep experience with audio and video production tools (e.g., Adobe Audition, Premiere Pro, Descript, Pro Tools, OBS) and podcast/video distribution platforms (YouTube, Megaphone, Spotify, Apple Podcasts).
- Excellent editorial judgment and strong instincts for what makes for engaging audio and video content across platforms.
- Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to guide talent, manage cross-functional projects, and align multimedia output with broader editorial strategy.
- Data-informed decision-maker who is comfortable working with analytics tools and drawing insights to guide growth.
- Familiarity with the political media landscape—especially right-of-center audiences—and a commitment to The Dispatch’s values of civil discourse and intellectual rigor.
