Role Mission
We’re building a team of highly-skilled engineers who want one thing above all else: to write excellent code, every day, and continuously level up technically.
This role is tailor-made for engineers who thrive on solving hard technical problems, learning from brilliant peers, and getting deep into the codebase — day in, day out.
You will be part of a high-performing team, embedded with a single client long-term. That means you’ll get the rare chance to build deep knowledge of a product, shape its technical direction over time, and see the real-world impact of your work as it evolves.
We want engineers who ask great questions, build strong relationships with their teammates and client stakeholders, and know how to get what they need to do their best work.
As a Cloud Engineer, you’ll split your time 50% across frontend and 50% backend development:
* Delivering scalable, serverless backends on AWS using C# .NET and CDK (in TypeScript).
* Designing and integrating with SQL or DynamoDB databases.
This is a client-facing role where you’ll contribute not just code, but also technical insight in planning and problem-solving sessions with clients.
Skills
* Strong experience with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
* Backend development with C# .NET (APIs, serverless functions, integrations).
* AWS serverless production experience (CDK, Lambda, API Gateway).
* Database experience with SQL and/or DynamoDB.
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions).
* Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* STEM / Computer Science degree or comparable experience.
What we Offer
Alongside a competitive salary, we also offer:
* 22 Days annual leave
* Learning and Development Support throughout your career at Theodo
* 3 week work from anywhere policy
* Equipment budget for your tech set up
* Company pension
* Monthly Socials
* A Slack network of 600+ engineers across our extended ecosystem — ask questions, share patterns, or troubleshoot obscure bugs with some of the sharpest devs out there.
* Monthly "Lunch & Tells" — in-person sessions to share technical discoveries, cool code tricks, or war stories from the field with fellow engineers.
* Bi-Annual Engineering Hack Days — time away from client work to build tools, prototypes, or experiments with your peers. No meetings, no decks — just code and curiosity.
You'll work on a hybrid basis from our office based in Green Point, Cape Town—a vibrant location, with amenities, beaches, parks, and the CBD all within close proximity.
