Who we are

The Routing Company is enabling a world where economic opportunity isn't limited by transportation. Mass transit is broken and cities, now more than ever, need accessible, and flexible transportation options. The Routing Company offers a complete and integrated experience for transit operators to launch on-demand transportation services -- including a rider app, driver app, and visualization platform that are all configurable within a day.

Our technology is inspired by 5 years of research at world leading universities, including MIT and TU Delft. We are a small, but quickly growing team of ride-sharing veterans, software engineers, researchers, public transportation domain experts, product managers, designers, and more. We value kindness and transparency in our work environment and we create equal opportunities for everyone to grow, make an impact, while also not forgetting to have fun! We recently raised $5m which you can read about here

You can check out our rider app homepage here, and our company website here.

The opportunity

We are looking for a software engineering co-op to join our web development based dashboard team, to build new features and maintain our transit dashboard. Our dashboard is used by the employees of transit agencies to view the performance of their deployments, manage their drivers and vehicles, and edit details of their performance such as service times and service areas. Some projects we’ve worked on recently include creating a call center to support riders who don’t have smartphones, creating an interface to add areas to indicate to riders where fixed route connections exist, and redesigning our performance metric page to look very modern.

You will have the opportunity to work on large scale projects that will be utilized by transit agency employees everyday. You will have many senior engineers to learn from and collaborate directly with to grow as an engineer yourself.

Our dashboard is written in JavaScript using React. While some experience with web development is helpful, it is not required. We care much more about your competency with programming and computer science fundamentals than the specific details of any language or framework. While this is a frontend focused role, there will be many opportunities to work full stack. Our backend code is mostly written in Go.You will be an integral part of a small and highly motivated team of self-starters, working closely with the CTO developing world-leading technology to power the future of public transportation. As an early employee, you'll also be able to impact the product and the company culture. You will work in an exciting, fast-paced startup environment with plenty of opportunities to learn and make an impact!

We encourage you to drop us a line even if you don’t feel fully qualified. We have a lot of different areas of responsibility and we are always happy to brainstorm with you about what would be the best fit.

The details

This co-op will start in the summer and end at the end of December, 2022. We can be flexible with start and end dates, some of our past co-ops have worked from May to December and some from July to December.
