To support our ambitious commercial goals, the company continues to invest heavily in the Product division, led by Jonathon Moore (a Product leader in Digital & Technology), to drive the next stage of our development. We work at speed shipping new products every fortnight and employ a Lean, ‘build/test/learn’ mentality around our product development. The goals are ambitious and the mandate is clear – to make travel smarter.
Reporting to the Director of Data Science, we want you to lead a new team of growth-based Data Scientists to spark a revolution in the data-oriented support we give to Growth through machine learning. You’ll be applying cutting edge data science to our aggressive & commercial growth plans with a view to helping the team realise their potential. You’ll need to bring an abundance of creativity as you will be working on developing ‘industry first’ projects bringing big ideas to the table to build experiences that can only be solved through data such as machine learning, personalization and recommendation systems.
Constant innovation is part of the team DNA here – it’s all about customizing our app & websites to give users a unique experience. You may have seen our new Price Prediction feature developed through machine learning, predicting changes in the price of tickets based on billions of data points to empower customers’ buying decisions. Similarly, this was the birth place of BusyBot, an app extension we invented that uses crowd sourcing data to provide travelers with real-time information about the train they’re on to guide them to a seat. Here, we pushed from ideation to release within a week…and that’s where you come in.
You’ll be joining an ever-growing, world class Product team and working in small, agile, full stack teams alongside Designers, Engineers, Product Owners and Researchers to help us revolutionise the travel experience & create a truly customer-first experience. Further you will be part of a data science & engineering team who’s focused on delivering value to our users through innovation & data, leveraging the latest technologies built in the cloud & served through our products.
Day-to-day, you’ll be asking the hard questions that can only be answered using machine learning and data mining to offer innovation from Data Science whilst challenging what we do with data and how we use it. Your work won’t only be focused on Growth, and you’ll champion and evangelise the use of big data across all reaches of our business from Technical Data & Development to Operations to Finance, building relationships with a range of stakeholders across the business.
We’re a business rich in data and run by data. Working within Data Science, you’ll bring an impatience to reach far beyond what’s available to you today, hunting down new data sources to bring into our eco-system to understand and serve our customers better. We ingest over 2 Terabytes of data per day into our data lake, your challenge will be to generate business & customer value that will affect the lives of millions of travellers across Europe.
This is a truly career defining role for someone passionate about using Data Science to drive growth and looking for an opportunity to disrupt and define a product that will change the way people travel impacting millions of people every day.
We’re looking for creative big thinkers with small egos to achieve our ambitious plans. Most importantly, you’ll be a ground breaker in Data Science with strong experience of building customer-centric strategies and driving business growth or improvements through the use of advanced data techniques and analysis. You’ll possess a passion for big data and will bring curiosity as to how to approach problems from a different angle.
It goes without saying that you’ll have worked within a business that has data driven decision making at its heart and this should ideally be within an e-commerce or digital environment. Bringing proven knowledge and capabilities in using machine learning, data mining and predictive analytics, you will be well versed in R or Python, and have had exposure to big data platforms such as Hadoop and Spark .
With a track record of delivering high value projects, you’ll need to demonstrate a relentless focus on aiming high and delivering amazing results. You’ll have a PhD or Masters degree in a relevant field and bring an interesting story as to how you have helped a scaling business grow by impacting commercial decisions using big data.
