Who we are

Founded in 2013, Thistle is an early-stage food-tech startup empowering our customers to get and stay healthy while improving our food system’s sustainability. We deliver delicious, organic, healthy, plant-forward meals, cold-pressed juices, and snacks to customers on the West Coast at the elusive intersection of convenience, health, and sustainability.

We don’t want to be just another food delivery startup. Our focus is on our customers’ health and happiness, and we are revolutionizing how fresh, nutritious, high-quality food is purchased, manufactured, and delivered at scale.

We’re headquartered in San Francisco, but we are excited to be building out a remote Data team. Candidates should be located within California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Tennessee, or Maine.

About the role

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Analytics Engineer to drive data quality and best practices throughout Thistle. This position will have the opportunity to collaborate with stakeholders across the company, enabling our growth through appropriate data metrics, validation, documentation, and tooling.

Questions you might work on include

• How should our data model be designed to scale with our company, such as to appropriately handle new regions, facilities, and product lines?
• What are the most important business metrics to understand company health? How do we validate that these metrics are correct, and report them clearly to key stakeholders?
• How should our data model be documented, so data scientists, analysts, and other data consumers can work effectively with data?

What you'll do

    • Become the expert on Thistle’s data model, including defining appropriate dimensions, creating data pipelines, and developing appropriate processes to ensure data quality.
    • Drive a data-driven decision culture throughout the company: empower teams to use data in their day-to-day, such as through appropriate visualizations and reports.
    • Develop and maintain data definitions for key business metrics.
    • Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, software engineers, marketers, and more on opportunities to improve data quality and availability.
    • Improve database performance through query optimization and monitoring.

We're excited about you because you have

    • 3+ years of hands-on analytics engineering experience
    • Bachelors/Masters/Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience
    • Excellent SQL knowledge
    • Solid software engineering skills, including proficiency with Python
    • Experience with data processing tools such as Airflow and dbt
    • Experience in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehouse design
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand business needs
    • A passion for our mission: to make it easy for everyone to get and stay healthy while improving the sustainability of our food system

    • We understand that everyone is going to have strengths and weaknesses with regards to different aspects of this role. We encourage you to apply even if you feel some of the expectations would be challenging to meet.
