Overview

The Tonal hardware system consists of complex electrical and electro-mechanical sub-components.  The electrical system includes everything from high-speed digital processors to low-power microcontrollers with integrated/discrete wifi/BT radios. It has complex power architecture which includes motor control, sensors, audio and camera systems.  

Tonal is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to make key improvements to our existing groundbreaking products to meet the quality, reliability, and cost goals of Tonal. Your engineering expertise will be invaluable in all phases of concept, prototyping, test, and iteration through to high volume production. You will work within the Ongoing Product Improvement organization to identify and execute on improvements to existing Tonal products.

What You Will Do

    • Play a critical role maintaining designs that have post launch design requirements
    • Qualify 2nd source parts or sub-systems
    • Support the factory as needed
    • Managing and executing changes that are planned
    • Overseeing problems that may come up due to supply issues (ex. simple 2nd source component qualification, sub-system replacement, and EMC testing)
    • Work cross-functionally with Design team and other EEs

Who You Are

    • 10+ years of relevant experience in hardware systems development and integration
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Experience as a generalist electrical engineer who is capable of working with digital and power systems
    • Proven technical leadership with experience maintaining a product
    • Have been part of a team that has delivered hardware to product by using a contract manufacturer
    • Hands-on skills to test and validate 
    • Great at troubleshooting, with skills to help flesh out issues and propose changes as needed
    • Well-organized and enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic environment
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience designing boards with ARM processors and microcontrollers
    • Knowledge of EMI, signal integrity, and power systems
    • Knowledge of standard interfaces (USB, SPI, I2C, LVDS, PCIe, etc)
    • Experience in PCB design, schematic capture, and layout (we use Altium)
