Job Summary:
As the VP of Delivery, you will play a pivotal role in establishing Toptal as a leader in the Technology Delivery space, through managing the operations, growth, and performance of Toptal’s delivery models (Managed Services and Managed Delivery), as well as the Delivery Pursuits (Pre-Sales) team. This role requires strong technical expertise paired with equally strong leadership skills to drive strategic alignment cross-functionally as you build, grow, and optimize each delivery model.
One of your primary focus areas will be defining, building out, and scaling our Managed Services offering. As the leader of this new business, you’ll be responsible for developing and executing a strategy that ensures we scale effectively while delivering exceptional customer satisfaction and support quality. You’ll manage the portfolio of service offerings, create reliable support models, and optimize cost structures, all while finding innovative ways to enhance client support and grow recurring revenue. Your role will be crucial in balancing profitable growth with operational excellence as you shape the future of this key part of our business.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for driving growth across Toptal’s delivery models, focusing on increasing revenue while maintaining our high level of customer satisfaction and delivery best practices. You will manage a team of individuals that lead each engagement model and their respective delivery managers and team manager.
Establish and Grow Managed Services, acting as the driving force to build a world-class Managed Services organization with multiple support structure and service offerings. You will be responsible for driving the foundational strategy and execution of a new model, driving scalability, expanding initial opportunities, and balancing growth with delivery best practices. You will play a key role in aligning our Managed Services strategy with the broader go-to-market initiatives of our Practices and Sales teams.
Optimize and Maintain Managed Delivery, overseeing existing operations to deliver high-quality outcomes for our clients, within appropriate budgets and timelines. Within Managed Delivery, you will identify areas that add risk to delivery execution and explore mitigation strategies.
Optimize Delivery Pursuits, which is a team of Pre-Sales specialists focused on identifying and closing opportunities for our Delivery team. This includes improving the collaboration with sales teams to increase the volume, quality, and successful conversion of Delivery leads.
Across all Delivery Models, you will proactively evaluate our existing processes to identify and implement improvements to increase revenue and improve client experience. You will collaborate with sales leadership to identify and expand delivery’s footprint across our client-base.
This is a leadership position that demands a leader with exceptional communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an unwavering commitment to driving growth.Critical for success is your ability to work both on the front-lines with clients, guiding them as a trusted business partner through their business challenges, and internally at Toptal where you will work cross-functionally with teams such as Marketing, Sales, Legal, and Finance. This role will coordinate with and present strategic decisions to Senior Leadership and Toptal’s CEO to ensure the business is aligned with the broader growth goals of Toptal, and represents the Toptal brand in every aspect.
• Accomplish work objectives through leading and supervising other Toptal team members within the Delivery subfunction.
• Establish objectives and initiatives for the team, recommend the team’s structure and jobs, and organize, assign, delegate, oversee, and monitor work.
• Coach and mentor team members, provide feedback, conduct performance reviews, and implement performance improvement plans, if needed.
• Apply system-analyst techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine hardware, software, or systems functional specifications.
In the first week, expect to:
• Onboard and integrate into Toptal.
• Learn Toptal’s business model, our value proposition, and our story.
• Shadow critical teams throughout the organization to learn Toptal’s core operations and capabilities.
In the first month, expect to:
• Partner with our Market Insights team to identify key service offerings within the Managed Services model.
• Establish collaborative relationships with sales leaders and practices leaders to define the approach for the identified service offerings.
• Understand and embed yourself within the flow of Delivery operations.
In the first three months, expect to:
• Have defined Toptal’s approach to writing proposals within the Managed Services.
• Begin delivering proposals in the first service areas.
• Define and begin executing your plan to build the necessary infrastructure and operations to begin supporting the first services areas, while exercising discretion and independent judgment.
• Identify initial optimization opportunities within all delivery models.
In the first six months, expect to:
• Have a clearly defined strategy for the types of Managed Services opportunities that Toptal will be most competitive in based on the sales pipeline and opportunity progression.
• Have a clearly defined plan to scale the infrastructure required for delivery of managed services.
In the first year, expect to:
• Have active clients in the Managed Services model, as well as a pipeline of additional opportunities.
• Have implemented optimizations across the broader Delivery organization (Managed Delivery, Teams Advanced, and Delivery Pursuits).
• Have a defined plan for continued expansion into new service areas.
• Become embedded with Toptal’s sales and practice leaders, participating in account planning and other strategy development.
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
• 15+ years of technology services and/or managed services experience.
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience driving and managing a business with a strong understanding of business operations and management principles.
• Expert knowledge in Cloud & Infrastructure, Application Development, AI/ML, Data & Analytics, and Information Security.
• Expert knowledge in project delivery and agile methodologies.
• Proven experience and ability leading Managed Services teams or organizations.
• Demonstrated success in building and launching a new business or product offering from scratch.
• Leadership experience, including responsibility for business results in a fast-paced, multi-function environment.
• Refined relationship development & leadership skills with a proven track record of success in building credibility across all levels of an organization. You can develop positive relationships across the business to partner on key initiatives and gain consensus on processes and strategies.
• Excellent organization skills and detail-oriented. You are hyper-organized, know how to work efficiently, and prioritize execution, as well as mentor others to do the same.
• Professional maturity, poise, and executive presence – you’re a masterful storyteller with experience building long-term client relationships and influencing at the executive level.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including proposals and presentations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company and handle a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse array of contacts.

US FLSA Classification: Full-Time/Exempt
$200,000 - $250,000 a year
This position receives a base salary and is also eligible to receive a discretionary bonus. The US-based salary range for this full-time position is $200,000- $250,000 per year. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
