Head of Target Unit

Transmutex SA is a Geneva-based enterprise designing accelerator-driven power plants. Their purpose is to eliminate the existing global stockpile of highly radioactive long-lived waste and at the same time to fight climate change by generating commercially viable carbon-free energy.

For our growing team in Geneva, we are looking to hire a full-time permanent Head of Target Unit who leads the design and construction of the target system for START (Subcritical Transmutation Accelerated Reactor using Thorium), a mass-produced accelerator-driven small modular power plant. This project aims at designing a high-power spallation target capable of absorbing a proton beam with a power of 4 to 10 MW to be installed inside the reactor responding to stringent requirements of safety and maintainability in the hostile environment of a fast reactor core. You build and lead a small team and work in cooperation with the engineering department's other units (reactor, cyclotron, coolant, fuel cycle etc.) as well as its international industrial partners and you report to the Director of Engineering.
If you have proven leadership skills with diverse and cross-functional teams; extensive work experience in high-power spallation target design and operation, solid technical and scientific competence in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of high-power targets, we look forward to your application. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
