Founded in 2019, Transmutex aims to reinvent nuclear energy/medicine/waste recycling by using an accelerator-driven system (ADS) to optimize the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste. The innovative combination of particle accelerators and Thorium fuel based on existing long-lived radioactive waste allows to generate energy intrinsically safe and recycle the stockpile of long-lived waste in a proliferation-resistant way.
We are seeking a qualified and motivated nuclear safety engineer to join our team for the safety design and analysis of our system. You will play a critical role in ensuring safety and regulatory compliance of the START design, contributing to its development, licensing and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage comprehensive safety cases for the START, ensuring alignment with applicable nuclear licensing standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Identify, document, and justify the design basis, safety principles, and engineered safety features of the system.
- Produce and maintain structured Design Options and Provisions Files (DOPF).
- Conduct Level 1 and Level 2 PSA for the identification and quantification of risk.
- Use PSA insights to identify vulnerabilities and propose risk-reduction measures.
- Perform fault tree/event tree analysis to assess the likelihood and consequences of initiating events.
- Perform hazard analysis using techniques such as HAZOP
- Integrate safety principles into the engineering design of systems, structures, and components.
- Provide recommendations for design improvements based on safety assessment outcomes.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders and regulators.
- Participate in safety review committees and design review boards
Requirements
The candidates we are looking for must have:
- minimum Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of experience in the nuclear industry
- Strong understanding of nuclear safety principles, including defence-in-depth, inherent safety, and probabilistic safety approaches.
- Familiarity with international safety standards and mechanical codes (e.g. ASME Section III, RCC-MR).
- Formal training in nuclear safety analysis and licensing frameworks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and regulatory interactions
Additionally, it will be an advantage if you have:
- Experience in nuclear safety engineering, preferably in advanced fast reactor systems.
- Proven track record in developing safety cases and conducting DSA, PSA, and hazard assessments.
- Proficiency in French, German or Italian
