Senior Nuclear Chemical Process Engineer

Geneva
Fuel manufacturing and reprocessing unit /
Full time /
On-site
Summary
Are you passionate about advancing the future of clean energy and pioneering nuclear-based technologies? We are seeking a skilled and innovative Nuclear Chemical Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of nuclear fuel cycle processes. This role bridges advanced chemical engineering with nuclear technology to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability in fuel manufacturing, reprocessing, and related R&D.

About us
Transmutex is a Geneva-based start-up founded in 2019. We aim at reinventing nuclear energy by designing START to optimize the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste. The innovative combination of particle accelerators and fuel, based on existing long-lived radioactive waste, will let us develop energy process that will be intrinsically safe, will reduce the stockpile of long-lived waste, is resistant to proliferation, and will be cost competitive.

Main responsibilities
·       Design, develop, and implement chemical processes and systems for nuclear reprocessing and fuel cycle applications.
·       Lead or contribute to the design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning of unit operations and systems of the planned reprocessing plant.
·       Conduct research to enhance efficiency, safety, and environmental performance of nuclear processes for reprocessing.
·       Prepare and maintain design documentation, including system requirements, process flow diagrams, material/energy balances, and safety analyses.
·       Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and fabricators to develop innovative solutions to complex chemical engineering challenges of nuclear reprocessing applications
·       Develop plant and system processes for the separation of specific isotopes for medical or transmutation purposes
·       Support R&D projects with experimental design, execution, data analysis, and reporting.
·       Perform modelling and simulations of nuclear chemical systems to guide process improvements.
·       Ensure compliance with nuclear safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
·       Communicate results effectively through technical reports, publications, and presentations.
·       Contribute to proposal writing and business development initiatives.

Qualifications and professional achievements
·       Master’s degree in chemical engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
·       5+ years of relevant professional experience in chemical or nuclear engineering.
·       Experience with multiple nuclear fuel cycle operations, cleaning of off-gas and chemical separation processes.
·       Demonstrated expertise in experimental planning, execution, and post-test analysis and system layout.
·       Proven expertise in process design and documentation (e.g., PFDs, P&IDs, safety basis analyses).
·       Skills on electro-chemistry (e.g. used to ANSYS electrochemistry module or similar)
·       Hands-on experience with unit operation specification, testing, and R&D environments.
·       Strong knowledge of radiation safety and regulatory frameworks.
·       Willingness to work responsibly in environments with ionizing radiation.
·       Proficiency in computational modelling/simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
·       Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
