Lead Civil Engineer – Nuclear Infrastructure Development

Geneva
Engineering Team /
Full time /
On-site
Founded in 2019, Transmutex aim to reinvent nuclear energy/medicine/waste recycling by using an accelerator-driven system (ADS) to optimize the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste. The innovative combination of particle accelerators and Thorium fuel based on existing long-lived radioactive waste allows to generate energy intrinsically safe and recycle the stockpile of long-lived waste in a proliferation-resistant way.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Civil Engineer to join our team in the development of a cutting-edge ADS project. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing civil engineering design activities, working closely with contractors, and ensuring the successful realization of project objectives.

Key Responsibilities
- Define conceptual design objectives, technical requirements and project deliverables for civil engineering activities.
- Conduct functional analysis and develop high-level technical specifications for key structures including accelerator and reactor buildings.
- Address both nuclear and non-nuclear auxiliary infrastructure, ensuring clear separation for operational safety and cost optimization.
- Develop detailed and structured work packages for civil engineering contractors ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Verify and validate the layout of the entire facility to ensure integration and coherence of all systems and structures.
- Conduct regular reviews and validations of the work performed by the civil engineering contractor.
- Provide technical guidance and ensure contractor deliverables meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. -
- Ensure civil engineering activities comply with relevant nuclear regulations, including US-NRC, IAEA, and national regulatory frameworks.
- Apply nuclear design codes such as ACI 349, ASCE 7, and Eurocodes for structural integrity and safety evaluations.
Interface with licensing authorities and contribute to the preparation of safety and licensing documentation.

Requirements
The candidates we are looking for must have
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects, preferably in the nuclear domain.
- Ability to work within multicultural and multidisciplinary teams, collaborate with contractors, prepare detailed documentation, and conduct technical reviews.
- Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of nuclear codes, safety standards, and regulations (SSG-68, ASME, ASCE 7-22, etc.) applicable to design, construction, and operation of nuclear facilities.
- Proficiency in English and French (spoken and written).

Additionally, it will be an advantage if you have:
- Experience in designing nuclear facilities, particle accelerators, or other complex infrastructure projects involving radiation shielding or containment structures.
- Proven expertise in functional analysis, requirements management, safety and cost optimization in civil engineering projects.
- Understanding of nuclear licensing and compliance processes.
- Proficiency in Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools and workflows.
- Familiarity with high-performance concrete, radiation-shielding materials, steel alloys, and other specialized construction materials commonly used in nuclear construction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present design concepts, technical reports, and safety documentation to diverse audiences, including technical teams, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
- Proficiency in German or Italian.
