The Platform Research team is part of TRI's Human Interactive Driving (HID) division. The aim of the division is to develop technologies that change the way we think about mobility, while the Platform Research team aims to build and deploy tools and platforms that accelerate HID’s research goals. As a Senior Engineer in this team, you will help create integrated research vehicles that showcase TRI's latest research and technologies.  

We are looking for a top-performing, tenacious problem solver who, at the same time, is comfortable with ambiguity and is an abstract thinker. The successful candidate is curious, open-minded, and a relationship- and bridge-builder who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments and quickly adapts to new situations, domains, and technologies.

Responsibilities

    • Lead prototype vehicle development, including hardware, electronics, and low-level software design and development
    • Break down high-level requirements into system architecture, component specs, and wiring diagrams
    • Own the debugging of hardware and software to ensure system functionality
    • Lead functional safety design and implementation

Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of related experience
    • Strong background in mechatronics, including hardware, electronics, and low-level software for hardware control and middleware
    • Previous experience working with OEMs or Tier 1s
    • Experience with integration for prototype vehicles
    • Experience with Solidworks and rapid prototyping
    • Knowledge with Vehicle onboard computers (ECU)
    • Safety system design experience
    • Exposure with MATLAB/SIMULINK
    • Write programming languages such as C++/Python

Bonus Qualifications

    • Experience with ISO26262
    • ROS/ROS2 or similar framework experience
    • dSpace products experience
    • CI/CD
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $184,000 and $264,500/year for California-based roles; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Note that TRI offers a generous benefits package (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave) and an annual cash bonus structure.
