We are seeking a highly experienced and client-facing Senior Health & Safety Scientist to support a dynamic portfolio of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) projects across private and public contracts supporting both general industry and construction settings. This position requires strong technical expertise in occupational health, toxicology, OSHA and USEPA regulatory compliance, and a proven ability to build lasting client relationships. This position will report directly to Matrix’s National Director of Occupational Health & Safety.
The ideal candidate will have 10–15 years of experience, with demonstrated strength in conducting exposure studies, in-silico modeling, compliance auditing, litigation support, and program development. This role also provides the opportunity to contribute to business development efforts and mentor junior staff, while working collaboratively across a multidisciplinary team of EHS, engineering, and environmental professionals.
What you'll do
- Lead OHS projects, acting as the technical expert and primary client liaison
- Conduct exposure studies including air, noise, and biological monitoring
- Conduct ergonomic and biological hazard and risk assessments
- Apply and interpret relevant OSHA, USEPA, ACGIH, and NIOSH standards and guidance
- Develop and apply exposure modeling and risk characterization approaches
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, sampling strategies, and compliance deliverables
- Bring, maintain, and grow trusted client relationships; support strategic account management and business development activities
- Scope and support proposals, budgets, and project planning
- Mentor junior staff and support knowledge transfer across the team
- Coordinate with internal teams across disciplines and regions to deliver integrated services
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, toxicology/pharmacology, or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
- 10–15 years of industrial hygiene and occupational health experience
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, USEPA, ACGIH, and NIOSH regulations and best practices
- Demonstrated experience with modern exposure modeling tools and methodologies
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with experience delivering presentations and client-facing reports
- Proven success in managing client relationships and contributing to growth
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% as project needs dictate
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal/state government contracts and large industrial clients
- Background in litigation support or expert witness preparation
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, EHS management systems, or digital IH platforms
- Having obtained, or willingness to obtain, the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential.
