Ullico Inc. is actively recruiting a Supervisor, Group Life Claims.  This candidate is responsible for planning, assigning, coordinating and directing day-to-day workflow and customer service issues.  Responsible for handling staff evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed.  This position is a working supervisory role which incorporates evaluating, processing, and adjudicating claims in addition to supervising staff.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervise Group Life Claims, Accidental Death, Dismemberment, Waiver and Survivor Income Claims.
    • Receive and review all Group Life Claims, Accidental Death, Dismemberment, Waiver and Survivor Income Claim submissions to determine if all documents necessary to support the requirements of the policy for eligibility and benefits are received. Obtain proper medical and or legal documentation from appropriate sources to support claims to include possible referral to outside sources.  Review claim files on a consistent basis to determine appropriate follow-up actions to be taken. 
    • Adjudicate and process claims according to the Policy and Eligibility elements. 
    • Review the Daily Paid Claims Listing Report; verify the total amounts paid, determine and make any necessary corrections.
    • Train new and temporary employees.  Provides continuous coaching and recommends training as needed.
    • Prepare daily, weekly, and ad hock reports.  Take disciplinary action as needed. 
    • Evaluate and recommend new procedures as needed.
    • Respond to all internal inquiries and refer problems and/or complex claim related issues to Director of Claims.  Determine when to elevate legal inquiries to Legal Department to determine actions to take items to closure.
    • Monitor and complete weekly review of recorded calls for quality assurance evaluation and delivery of applicability of performance coaching.
    • Evaluates and provides feedback on performance to direct reports; take disciplinary action as needed. 
    • Responds to internal and external life claim matters and answers, services, and leads internal and external department phone discussions and emails. 
    • Manage claim overpayments and/or refunds and coordinates efforts with internal departments such as, but not limited to Treasury, Accounting, and Finance.
    • Performs other similar and related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

    •  Associate’s Degree or two year equivalent.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
    • Minimum of five to seven years of experience with life insurance, waiver of premium and accidental death and dismemberment claims.
    • Minimum 1-2 years in a supervisory capacity.  Proven track record of leading and managing a team.
    • Knowledge of group life insurance policies, claims processing procedures and regulatory requirements.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and compliance.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
    • Proficiency in claims management systems and MS Office Suite.
$80,000 - $100,000 a year
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 (depending on relevant experience, skills, and credentials).  This position is eligible to participate in Ullico Inc.’s (“Ullico”) annual incentive compensation program. An incentive award is contingent upon Ullico meeting financial goals set by the Ullico Board of Directors and your individual performance. The elements of the program, including eligibility, the range of potential incentive compensation, and the factors that determine the payment, will be shared with you after you become employed.
