This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative, development stage biotech company focused on developing life transforming therapies for patients with rare and ultra-rare disorders.  Ultragenyx is looking for an experienced medical affairs leader with the passion and creativity to develop great medicines for patients.
The successful candidate will be accountable for the successful development and execution of key medical affairs activities in Turkey, in alignment with Regional and Global Medical Affairs colleagues, the European commercial team, and of course the Turkish affiliate. This role will have responsibilities for the full Ultragenyx pipeline in Turkey.  People management duties are expected to grow as the affiliate matures. Key activities will include: establishing the country medical strategy and plan, lead execution of relevant medical affairs activities, forging strong relationships with key opinion leaders, supporting market access and other payer-related activities, compliantly support commercial activities, support patient identification and advocacy initiatives, and support life cycle management of the programs.
 
The ideal candidate will have experience in rare disease drug development and commercialization, life cycle management, and deep knowledge of the Turkish medical landscape.  The individual will be a self-starter with excellent leadership skills and will have the desire and capability to build a strong team from the ground up. 

Key responsibilities:

    • Develop the Turkish medical strategy and plan
    • Support execution of key medical activities including advisory boards, medical education initiatives, congress activities, and payer interactions 
    • Maintain high level of scientific and medical expertise on the relevant disease areas and serve as key medical resource in the disease area and on specific products.
    • Provide Medical expertise to the Commercial organization to compliantly assist in the development and execution of Commercial activities.
    • Work closely with the regional medical organizations to align the strategy in Turkey to the regional and global strategy, and to provide relevant input from a Turkish affiliate perspective
    • Manage grant proposals, medical information, and Investigator Sponsored Trials originated in the country, taking them through the relevant processes
    • Forge strong relationships with key opinion leaders
    • Provide scientific and medical leadership as needed for publication planning and execution
    • Provide support as needed to Clinical Sciences and Clinical Operations to ensure successful execution of our clinical trials program
    • Support high-quality execution of Corporate-wide initiatives in the country
    • Exhibits leadership skills within and outside of the organization (including people skills, mentoring, presentation skills and professional interaction)

Requirements:

    • Minimum 10+ years in biotech / pharmaceutical industry with 4+ years in Medical Affairs. 
    • Advanced scientific degree:  MD degree or equivalent.
    • Medical specialty training preferred; optimally in medical genetics, pediatric or adult neurology or other complex clinical fields dealing with chronic diseases and complex pathophysiology, or relevant experience.
    • Experience working in rare diseases preferred.
    • Must have strong knowledge of the regulatory and compliance framework within Turkey
    • Proven leadership experience and able to work both independently and as a member of an integrated, interdisciplinary team in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
    • Must be analytical and articulate in both oral and in writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate well with others at varying professional levels, especially in the medical profession.
    • Track record of forming compliant partnerships with commercial colleagues
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
    • Ability to think creatively, and efficiently to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
