Job Summary:
The Patient Service Specialist / Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in providing exceptional service to our patients throughout their healthcare journey. The Specialist is a key component of our team that works closely with the primary care provider to deliver excellent patient care, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The Specialist must take exceptional pride in their work and never settle for "good enough".
This role involves managing patient interactions before, during, and after receiving care, ensuring a seamless experience through effective communication and coordination of services. The Specialist will handle various administrative tasks, including (but not limited to) appointment scheduling, insurance updates, patient check-in/out, chart preparation, measurement of vital signs, the drawing and preparation of lab work, and preparation of treatment rooms for upcoming examinations. The Specialist will also provide support to primary care providers throughout the Transitional Care Management process.
Essential Functions
- JOB DUTIES
- Providing excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
- Greeting patients professionally both in person and on the phone
- Optimizing provider schedules and patient satisfaction with efficient scheduling
- Notifying provider of patient arrivals
- Comforting patients by anticipating anxieties and effectively answering questions
- Gathering patient information, verifying financial records, and collecting patient payments
- Performing departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, track referrals, and answer phones
- Maintaining office inventory and equipment by anticipating supply needs and expediting supply order
- Demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care or arrange for the provision of appropriate care, for patients, as pertinent to the scope of practice and specialty of the office setting
- Appropriately and accurately documenting all patient care/interactions in patient medical record
- Participating in telephone triage by obtaining clinically appropriate data and symptoms from the patient and advises and instructs patients according to established protocols and/or orders from the provider
- Completing lab and radiology requisitions; drawing and preparing specimens of body fluids such as urine and blood for laboratory testing for pick-up, as applicable
- Performing venipuncture
- Performing point of care testing
- Ensuring that all ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests are tracked and logged, and that the provider is presented with all test results
- Preparing & reviewing patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
- Measuring vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
- Participating in electronic documentation of care at the direction of the provider
- Assisting with reviewing medication history and updating medication list
- Performing Transitional Care Management visits as directed
- Assisting providers during procedures and examinations and performing instrument and room clean-up
- Utilizing standard precautions

Required Qualifications
- Education:
- High School Degree or GED
- Licensure/Certification:
- Active Medical Assisting Certification (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, required within 90 days of hire)
- Experience:
- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required)

$50,000 - $60,000 a year
