WHY WE NEED YOU 
We are inviting smart, diligent and process-oriented accounting leaders who get excited about digging into details to improve organizational efficiency to apply for our Director, Accounting role.

You will contribute to defining and developing decision making processes to budget organization-wide across all programmatic, grantmaking, and infrastructure needs and to inform revenue and fundraising strategies. To achieve this, you will partner with internal client groups to identify potential organizational needs, map revenue sources, and participate in the development of a multi-year revenue tracking tool.

You will have the unique opportunity to work at the intersection of innovation strategies for process improvement and optimizing day-to-day accounting functions.

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE TO THE CAUSE

    • Accounting:
    •                      o   Lead Accounting and Gift Processing teams in the execution of day-to-day financial operations of the organization, including directing the monthly closing process ensuring it is completed timely and accurately
                           o   Prepare, review and analyze interim financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
                           o   Actively participate and advise in all accounting matters, including those that relate to new community impact initiatives such the Affordable Housing Initiative (AHI) and Women’s Investment Network (WIN-LA), etc.
                           o   Review and approve all accounts payable transactions ensuring timely payment of expenses and proper recording against budgets
                           o   Participate in the preparation of the annual operating budget and annual funding budget
                           o   Manage contract financial review process, including analysis for improvements to minimize Organization’s business risk
                           o   Ensure proper internal controls exist throughout the Organization to safeguard company assets
    • Audit & Compliance:
    •                      o   Direct and lead our annual financial statement audit and form 990 with assistance from VP, Finance.
                           o   Build relationships with and serve as primary contact for external auditors and tax team
                           o   Prepare agendas and meeting materials for the Audit and Investment Committee meetings
                           o   Lead administrative and compliance requirements for the organization’s pension plan, including preparing and reviewing annual census data, annual audit and Form 5500, and pension distributions to participants
                           o   Manage other compliance requirements, such as insurance renewals, solicitation permits and reports, and other government required compliance reports
    • Revenue Processing:
    •                      o   Oversee and manage the recording and accounting of Revenue Processing teams
                           o   Manage and coordinate all interactions and activities related to donations of stock, including partnering with internal and external partners to ensure proper recording
                           o   Oversee unapplied (suspense) items process to ensure all items are resolved within 15 days
    • Process Improvements:
    •                      o   Manage the day-to-day implementation of Sage Intacct and Microsoft CRM software
                           o   Lead the development and documentation of process improvements for both manual and automated accounting processes
                           o   Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce organizational financial policies and procedures and maximize utilization of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness
    • Team Management & Development:
    •                      o   Mentor and coach a diverse team of Accounting and Gift Processing professionals to grow skillsets, support individual professional development goals, and inspire team members to both lead and follow
                           o   Provide direct but respectful constructive feedback in real-time and during formal review periods to elevate team performance, maintain accountability, and reach goals
                           o   Be prepared to back up the functions of the accounting team when staff are out of the office

WHAT 1 YEAR OF SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

    • Defining and developing decision process to budget organizationally across all programmatic, grantmaking, and infrastructure needs with processes created to map needs and decide revenue and fundraising strategies
    • Development of detailed process guides and training documentation for all day-to-day use cases supporting the launch of new Sage Intacct accounting software
    • Increased efficiency of the department through the review, evaluation, and improvement of processes related to revenue subledger and facility needs
    • Monthly closing are completed timely with the publication of the Interim financial statements  

SKILLS YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED (The Must-Haves)

    • Education & Experience:
    •                      o   Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required
                           o   CPA license strongly preferred.
                           o   Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, or audit is required; experience at CPA firm, experience in banking, lending, loan processing, corporate finance, real estate investments, or related areas strongly preferred
                           o   Minimum 3 years of experience supervising and developing direct reports
                           o   Intermediate excel skills required
                           o   Experience with accounting systems such as Microsoft Dynamics SL, Sage Intacct or Microsoft CRM required
    • Personal Qualities:
    •                      o   You enjoy a hybrid environment that includes both in-person and remote work styles and are able to work from our DTLA office on Tuesdays and Thursdays
                           o   You are able to provide documentation of your status as fully vaccinated with primary series of COVID-19 vaccine upon being hired.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    • Hiring Salary Range: $100,000-$130,000 dependent on internal equity and a variety of job-related factors including, but not limited to, experience, training, education, and market demands.
    • The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 403(b) plan, pension, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, paid holidays, and paid time off.
