Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Building Inspection Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Summary 
The Building Inspector is a key role, responsible for performing highly technical inspection work for the day-to-day completion of electrical building inspections. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where both collaboration and autonomy are valued.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
• Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing
• Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five pounds regularly on average, and up to seventy-five pounds. on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation
• This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions
• Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.
• This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and approved plans.
    • Perform on-site inspections at different stages of construction, including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing and final inspections
    • Ensures that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy, and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle
    • Ensures that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures
    • Evaluate structural integrity, safety features, fire protection systems, accessibility, and energy efficiency of buildings
    • Determines whether changes may be required in plans and makes recommendations to contractors, engineers, architects, etc.
    • Identify and document code violations, deficiencies or non-compliant issues during inspections
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and current inspection records
    • Conduct follow-up inspections to verify that corrective actions have been completed and compliance has been achieved
    • Exercises tact and courtesy when conducting inspections and dealing with clients
    • Prepares reports and reports data in a complete, timely, and understandable fashion and returns as required to a branch office. Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
    • Ensures that project requirements are met and compliant with inspection specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures
    • Oversees the maintenance of company vehicle (take in to shop for routine maintenance including oil changes, tire pressure, fluid levels, etc.)
    • Cellular phones are to be worn at all times and calls are to be returned immediately
    • Attends all department meetings
    • Drives to various job sites at locations both locally and throughout the State of Florida. Follow all Driving Laws when driving a company vehicle
    • Regular attendance is required
    • Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekend schedules may be necessary to support business needs
    • Follows all company safety procedures and policies
    • Other duties may be assigned

Required Qualifications:

    • Valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
    • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
    • State of Florida Standard Building Inspector License is required
    • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
    • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
    • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
