SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for managing all lab personnel, setting up additional lab procedures, and assisting with maintaining A2LA and AASHTO accreditation for both of our Houston locations. We are seeking a self-starter who is eager to help us lead the market while maintaining company standards. Our ideal candidate must be a proven leader, willing and ready to be an integral part of championing the UES culture to all current and future team members. What You'll Do
 
Managing activities and personnel related to geotechnical/construction materials laboratory testing
Overseeing laboratory tests, interpretation of test data, and preparing reports and/or summaries of test data
Responsible for day-to-day operations of the lab with consideration of financial performance
Serve as the technical manager in the quality system.
Responsible for obtaining and maintaining appropriate lab-testing related certifications by external certifying agencies for the defined scope; and also ensuring Lab Technicians obtain the same
Responsible for obtaining and maintaining accreditation by appropriate accrediting agencies in accordance with Corporate’s Lab Accreditation Policy (such as by AASHTO, A2LA, CCRL, and/or equivalent), including participation and performance of required Proficiency Sample Testing (AASHTO re:source and CCRL)
Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, calibration schedules, and records
Maintaining sufficient inventory of required supplies and equipment
Promoting safe work practices and ensuring proper PPE is used
Perform calculations and data reduction of test results and other administrative duties, as needed
Oversee and coordinate the schedules and work of laboratory technicians
Train and supervise both existing and new technicians and lab supervisors
Conduct and/or assist with coaching, performance evaluations, discipline, and termination of employees as needed and per company policy
Assist and/or be responsible for maintaining appropriate staff levels with approval by your management
The focus of this position will be on Laboratory Management, you may occasionally perform technician job duties
 
 
What We're Looking For
 
5-10 years as a Lab Supervisor or Manager
Knowledge of Concrete, Soil, and Asphalt with the ability to add ASTMs to our scope as necessary
NICET CMT Level III and/or TXDOT certifications are preferred
A College degree in geosciences, engineering, or construction management could be considered in lieu of certifications
Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
