Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) has an opening in our Geotechnical Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Summary
The Assistant Branch Manager is a key role, responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Geotechnical, Environmental, Building Inspection, and Construction Services Departments within a branch office, as well as supervising branch personnel. Physical Demands & Work Environment:
•Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk and hear. Body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation
•Lifting and/or moving up to 35 pounds regularly is expected, on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation
•This is not a remote position. This role will be based on the selected job posting location.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Perform geotechnical evaluations including slope stability, deep foundations evaluations, lateral foundation evaluations, retaining wall evaluations, roadway stability studies, settlement evaluations, miscellaneous shaft evaluations
    • Perform complex analyses, such as structural design of pile elements, underpinning systems, and special engineering inspections
    • Prepare scope proposals for projects and project management
    • Projects a positive image of the Company and colleagues at client negotiations, conferences, technical meetings, and within the office
    • Quotes costs and fees to clients by preparing proposals and reports for all the service lines that UES provides
    • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of employees
    • Interviews, hire, train, and hold employees to the company’s policies and applicable laws
    • Prepares performance evaluations for direct staff and reviews performance evaluation data for others in the Branch with assigned supervisors prior to and subsequent to the evaluation meeting
    • Keeps records of personnel transactions such as timesheets, benefits, new hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations as well as forwards necessary documentation to the Human Resources Department and/or Payroll for recordkeeping purposes
    • Interviews and selects employees to fill vacant positions
    • Reviews clerical and personnel records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
    • Responds and/or investigates employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
    • Regular attendance is required
    • Follows safety procedures 
    • Other duties may be assigned

Required Qualifications:

    • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria) 
    • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from a four-year college or university
    • 3 years experience in the Geotechnical Engineering
    • Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Florida  
    • Must have thorough knowledge and experience in either geotechnical engineering or environmental services consulting business
    • Experience in the effective use of scheduling and cost-control techniques
    • Ability to read  and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
    • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports 
    • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals 
    • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
