Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) is hiring three Field Technicians to help complete a Class III Inventory for an approximately 8,700-acre solar project near Tonopah, NV (Esmeralda County). This project is a block pedestrian survey only—no subsurface testing is anticipated. The project schedule will consist of eight 10-hr days followed by a hiatus of 6 days, and it is anticipated that the work will be completed in 16-20 working days (minimum two 8-day sessions). The start date for the project is tentatively set for Monday, 3/20/23. 

Compensation

    • The pay rate for Field Techs will be $28/hr. with a per diem of $55/day (reimbursed for non-local personnel). UES will arrange accommodation in single-occupancy rooms in Tonopah (approximately 30 minutes from the project area) and provide daily transportation to and from the work site. The Field Tech will be responsible for arranging travel to Tonopah prior to the start of each work session.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Carry out a Class III inventory (pedestrian survey) of an approximately 8,700-acre project area.
    • Identify and record new artifacts and sites within survey area using the Fulcrum data collection app.
    • Revisit and update previously recorded site boundaries.
    • Complete artifact worksheets for newly identified sites.
    • Update and/or complete new Intermountain Antiquities Computer System (IMACS) forms as needed.

Required Qualifications:

    • A BA in archaeology, anthropology, or related field is preferred, but not necessary if applicant has completed advanced undergraduate course work AND meets minimum field experience criteria.
    • 6-12 months previous archaeological experience with block survey in the Great Basin.
    • Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain.
    • Attention to detail and good communication skills.
    • Familiarity with recording sites and isolates using NV IMACS forms.
