Minimum Required Experience

    • B.S. Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology
    • E.I.T. or G.I.T. registration a plus
    • 5 years of experience in the environmental engineering field
    • Hazwoper 40-hour training, AHERA certification, additional certifications a plus

Additional Requirements

    • May require a truck for use on-the-job
    • Current driver’s license without restrictions
    • Acceptable, 39-month driving record
    • If driving his own vehicle, a certificate of current vehicle insurance evidencing minimum statutory requirements
    • Access to e-mail
    • Must be willing to occasionally travel out-of-town on work assignments
    • Must be able to work in a variety mediums (soil, water, and gas) in collecting samples
    • Must be able to work in dusty, sometimes noisy environments
    • Must be willing and able to conduct sometimes physically demanding work outdoors in the Arizona climate at all times of the year
    • Must be able to climb ladders and work with a variety of hand tools, including a shovel, pick, ten-pound slide hammer, and or manually-driven vapor probes
    • Must have the ability to safely enter all confines of a structure which may include sub-floor rooms/crawl spaces, attics, and roof access
    • Must be capable of remaining alert and upright at all times while on the job
    • Must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time; may be required to walk and/or carry/handle loads on uneven, unstable terrain
    • Must be able to recognize and respond quickly to sounds on a jobsite
    • Must be able to recognize and respond to situations that arise on a jobsite

Job Responsibilities

    • Consistently shows up for work as scheduled
    • Drives to project locations
    • Mentors and directs Environmental Specialists/Technicians conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
    • Conducts Phase I ESAs on complicated/large scale properties per ASTM standards including data collection, site reconnaissance, interviews, and preparation of draft reports
    • Perform Phase II ESAs, including contractor oversight, building inspections, data collection, oversight of drilling operations, quality assurance, field sample collection/transport, decontamination of equipment, and documentation of field work/activities
    • Prepares draft reports for those projects for which he/she conducted the research/field activities
    • Once trained and operating independently, completes tasks and submits completed paperwork/reports within appropriate time frame
    • Promptly notifies supervisor, project manager(s), and or dispatcher of problems or changes that arise on projects
    • Answers calls from supervisor, project manager(s), and/or dispatcher as soon as can reasonably be expected and, if unable to answer call immediately, returns call at the first opportunity
    • Adheres to established safety procedures

Communication Skills

    • Must be fluent in English
    • Written – Handwriting must be legible; must be able to compose correspondence and prepare required reports completely and accurately; proficiency in spelling, grammar, and technical writing is a must
    • Verbal – Must be able to receive, and follow through on, instructions from superiors; Maintains lines of communications and communicates effectively with supervisor, co-workers, clients, contractors, and agencies

    • Attitude – Presents a professional demeanor to management, co-workers, clients, and subcontractors; demonstrates a predisposition for working as a part of a team; demonstrates an interest in work
    • Willingness – Completes assigned tasks with diligence and without complaint; does what is necessary to get the job done on time
    • Efficiency/Accuracy – Work is typically performed correctly the first time.  Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, re-prioritize, coordinate, and accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Initiative – Once assigned tasks are complete, searches out other work that needs to be performed or requests instructions from supervisor
