Grubbs, Hoskyn, Barton & Wyatt, LLC, a Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) Company, has an opening in our Construction Services Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Under the guidance of the branch manager and operations manager, the CMT Group Manager applies mature knowledge, experience, and judgment in organizing and carrying out field and office technical work required to complete all levels of CMT/SI projects. This individual is responsible for managing, supervising, and training CMT technicians. In addition, they are responsible for laboratory quality control and maintaining CCRL/AASHTO accreditation, as well as responsible for the conduct of all phases of the project, including developing proposals, contract administration, budget control, development and maintenance of client/Firm relationships, technical proficiency, and quality of final reports. 

Job Responsibilities:

    • Prepares proposals and fee estimates for technical contracts.
    • Is responsible for invoicing projects and any subsequent required collection activities.
    • Is responsible for conducting difficult and complex assignments, directing the work of personnel engaged in field and laboratory studies, and possibly involving multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Prepares (or supervises preparation of) and signs technical reports and is responsible for the quality of reports prepared by subordinates assigned to their group or project.
    • Is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed within the allotted time and budget.
    • Is responsible for making routine job site visits and attending project site meetings.
    • Is considered to be fully qualified to exercise independent judgment in technical matters, and to perform assignments requiring mature experience and judgment.
    • Maintains a close relationship with clients, which includes advising clients on such matters as project progress, compliance with the scope of services, technical aspects, budget status, report schedule, etc. Responsible for maintaining and developing a select number of clients.
    • Provides advice and on-the-job training to subordinates during the progress of the job assignments.
    • Projects a positive image of the Firm and colleagues at client negotiations, conferences, technical meetings, and within the office.
    • Responsible for laboratory quality control, maintaining CCRL/AASHTO accreditation, and ensuring unit billing is performed.
    • Keeps abreast of new technical, regulatory, and business issues, as well as developments within the profession through literature review.
    • Attends loss prevention courses.
    • Trains and motivates less-experienced professionals.
    • Attends regularly scheduled Group and Corporate staff meetings to receive company information.
    • Checks the work of others adherence to time, costs, problems encountered, and personnel scheduling.
    • Participates in the business development and client contact program.
    • Responsible as a client partner to develop client relationships and seek business opportunities.
    • Conducts all work in a manner that demonstrates that safety is a core value.
    • Follows Geotechnology’s safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures.
    • Conducts periodic job site safety observations.
    • Participates in group safety meetings and job site tailgate safety meetings.
    • Completes assigned safety training.

Qualifications:

    • High school degree required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science preferred.
    • Ten years of progressively responsible experience in the construction field, with recognizable achievements, preferred.
    • Must have the ability to act as a project supervisor on large and complex projects involving technical standards, multi-disciplinary teams, and important client relationships.
    • Must know about routine ACI concrete field testing and laboratory concrete strength testing procedures.
    • Must know nuclear densometer testing for soil compaction.
    • Preferred knowledge and familiarity with other testing services, including asphalt, steel, fireproofing, paint thickness, roofing materials, plastic pipe, reinforced pipe, and Special Inspections per IBC.
    • Practices to high technical standards, including state-of-the-art knowledge when required.
    • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing capabilities.
    • Must possess the ability to deal with clients effectively, including promotional work, potential or actual conflict, fee negotiation, presentation of findings, and other technical or business matters.
