Overview:  
 
GSI Engineering, a Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) Company, has an opening in our Construction Services Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Performs laboratory tests and/or reduces laboratory data or supervises others in the use of laboratory computers during data reduction.
    • Attends staff meetings and coordinates testing requirements from various staff professionals.
    • Schedules laboratory staff; trains and motivates laboratory staff.
    • Performs, or supervises the performance of, laboratory tests as assigned.
    • Assists with the preparation of cost estimates for testing requirements on Firm projects.
    • Controls budgets on laboratory tests.
    • Review test results with staff professionals.
    • Maintains laboratory supply and equipment inventories and recommends purchase of new equipment.
    • Develops or reviews new testing techniques and recommends adoption to management.
    • Maintains standard laboratory testing procedures manual and answers questions about the proper application of testing techniques.
    • Review all test procedures and test results for quality assurance.
    • Drafts and submits reports to appropriate staff professionals.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field, or equivalent experience or capability required.
    • 2 years of experience in a supervisory capacity preferred
    • Ability to learn soil mechanics and related field and laboratory testing procedures.
    • Ability to reduce and interpret test data, prepare testing reports, and make oral presentations to staff professionals.
    • Familiarity with basic micro-computers and software programs.
    • Ability to supervise technicians and work with many staff professionals and clients.
    • Ability to train and motivate subordinates.
