A SWIFT officer is responsible for handling SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) operations in a financial institution.
Key Responsibilities
- Transaction Processing: Managing and processing financial transactions using SWIFT network. This includes fund transfers, securities transactions, and foreign exchange operations.
- Compliance and Verification: Ensuring all transactions comply with international and local regulations. This involves verifying transaction details, monitoring for suspicious activities, and adhering to anti-money laundering (AML) policies.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Providing support for any issues related to SWIFT messages or network. Resolving discrepancies in transaction details and liaising with other banks or financial institutions to rectify issues.
- SWIFT Message Formatting: Understanding and applying the correct format for different types of SWIFT messages (like MT101, MT103, etc.). Ensuring accurate and timely transmission of financial messages.
- Reconciliation: Performing daily reconciliation of transactions processed through SWIFT. Ensuring accuracy in the entries and resolving any mismatches.
- Collaboration with other Departments and Financial Institutions: Working closely with correspondent banks and other departments such as treasury, foreign exchange, and compliance to ensure seamless transaction processing.
- System Maintenance and Updates: Keeping abreast of changes in SWIFT protocols and system updates. Implementing necessary changes in internal systems and training relevant staff.
- Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks associated with SWIFT transactions. This includes monitoring transaction limits, reviewing beneficiary details, and ensuring secure communication channels.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of all SWIFT transactions for audit and regulatory purposes.
- Customer Service: Providing assistance and advice to clients regarding international transactions and resolving any queries related to SWIFT operations.
