Unlimit is a holder of various regulatory permissions in the banking and payment industry in multiple regions, including in the EU/EEA, the UK, Latin America, Asia, India and Africa. Unlimit is an active member of worldwide and regional card associations, payment networks and methods. The range of Unlimit’s portfolio of services includes Acquiring and payment processing of card instruments and different payment methods, IBAN Accounts, Card issuing, BaaS, cryptocurrency products and services.
 
As a reflection of our continued growth on global market, we are hiring a Deputy Regional Head of Legal: EMEA to join our cross-national legal team.     
Unlimit’s Legal Department provides diversified inhouse legal services and proactive support across the group. The role involves designing, performing, managing and supervising simple and complex legal and related tasks (including those subject to industry regulations and international aspects), legal routines/processes, projects, structuring, and compliance matters in connection with Unlimit, related business interests in its jurisdictions of operation and those  identified as new business opportunities. The role involves proactive interfacing with departments and C-level across the Group.

As Deputy Regional Head of Legal, you will be a critical part of the Legal Department, reporting to the Group Legal Head of Operations.
You will be expected to actively support all Legal operations, and the Legal Team  and to continuously develop your skills, and will have the opportunity to grow within teams of highly qualified specialists, increasing operations and product ranges.  



Key duties and responsibilities

    • Deputy Regional Head of Legal: EMEA for a multi-country business.
    • Support and manage the Legal function, its duties, tasks and processes
    • Provide legal support and guidance to various Unlimit departments, divisions and functions across the group on all legal and related aspects and on Group central operating directives.
    • Organize and manage legal tasks (including as part of larger projects)
    • Train the legal team members (including new joiners) on various matters and processes, with its members composed of both Legal Counsels specialized and handling different aspects of our operations, as well as Country Legal Counsels, performing or overseeing diverse legal work and flows, including: - 
    • - business, partners, contractual and commercial        
    • - payment counterparties  
    • - corporate and tax             
    • - employment       
    • - disputes and litigation      
    • -  licensing and authorisations           
    • - payment products            
    • - cryptocurrency products  
    • -  new products and projects             
    • - day to day legal support (industry specific) and generalist legal work     
    • Monitor performance and assist the team in solving complex issues
    • Ensure continuity and management of legal operations, on a Group level, as they pertain to local licenses and other types of corporate matters, as well as compliance with local regulatory and equivalent requirements and Group directives
    • Proactively identify legal and related problems, solutions and potential support needed to provide strategic support to local business teams
    • Design and develop processes and procedures, management systems and improvements in support of legal services and for the benefit of driving forward our business.

    • In your role, you will be expected to have a hands on approach and be able to hand diverse legal tasks which include:

    • Provide ongoing legal coverage for Unlimit’s business (EU and wider global business) as a Senior Member of Unlimit legal team. Provide coverage for business, operational purposes.
    • Deliver actionable advice on legal and relevant regulatory and compliance issues in various jurisdictions and regions. Identify applicable requirements and ensure compliance with them 
    • Design and handle in-house projects within the legal department, and cross-departmental projects (with operational and control function units). Monitor internal statuses, implementations, provide actionable solutions and systems.
    • Oversee/handle/participate in various licensing processes with competent authorities, international payment systems and networks
    • Ensure contractual review and management of relations with banks, payment systems and payment networks
    • Deliver, review and negotiate various documents such as agreements, resolutions, applications, forms, questionnaires, resolutions, letters, explanations, etc.
    • Deliver standardised agreements, templates etc. related to Unlmit’s business.
    • Design and deliver various legal analyses and opinions
    • Deliver, review and negotiate internal documents such as policies, guidelines, frameworks, procedures, manuals, instructions etc. 
    • Participate in and manage specialised matters involving banking and payment sector regulations, cryptocurrency regulations, technological elements and agreements, data protection, intellectual property (organising, research, drafting and reviewing various legal documents, presentation of solutions to stakeholders and management etc.).
    • Negotiate with third parties, communicate with authorities, facilitate business, protect and defend the out interests
    • Liaise with and assist other competent internal functions within Unlimit in the performance of their duties
    • Participate in industry audits
    • Manage legal matters and projects on diverse topics as part of the legal team: legal research, guidance and advice to various functions of the company (operational and internal control functions), counterparty or client inquiries, claims and disputes, employment and staff matters etc.   
    • Assure effective management of corporate matters (establishing, recording keeping, updating, performance of necessary filings etc.) in relation to corporate structure and legal entities.
    • Ensure continued effective collaboration with third parties and external service providers (such as professional service providers, banks and other institutions, counterparties)
    • Plan, structure and implement projects, management systems, deals and collaborations 
    • Participate hands-on in local and cross-regional team projects
    • Develop and approve budgets for assigned tasks where necessary
    • Conduct various legal projects and other duties as assigned
    • Have strong generalist skills.
    • Be comfortable to roll up your sleeves and to handle day to day routine legal work (contract reviews, urgent work, negotiations with counterparties)

Your experience and mindset

    • University degree in Law. LLM preferred and/or industry-related professional qualifications
    • At least 5-10 years of experience as manager in a legal department in a payments sector organisation in EU/UK, and/or a banking sector organisation, with exposure to acquiring, digital payments and products etc., with developed connections to outside EU/UK region. Experience in a multinational payments sector organisation is an asset.  
    • Expert knowledge of EU and UK sector-specific financial regulation.
    • Interest and exposure to cryptocurrency business and regulation.
    • Excellent command of English. Additional languages may be an asset.
    • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, relationship management skills
    • Excellent written, verbal, problem solving and analytical skills
    • Ability to present complex and ambiguous information in a clear manner, devising understandable steps and actions in a commercial setting.
    • Excellent drafting & negotiation skills
