About Until

Until is a moonshot company building a pause button for biology. In the short run, we believe this technology will meaningfully change the lives of all organ transplant patients. In the limit, we believe this technology can unlock medical hibernation, deep space exploration, and fundamentally change humanity's relationship with the future.

About the Role

We are seeking a Brainstem Scientist to join our neurobiology team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in brainstem physiology and your passion for innovative protocol development to ensure brainstem integrity in whole-body cryopreservation settings.

Key Responsibilities

    • Design and execute in vivo functional assessments of brainstem regions across different states of consciousness (e.g., anesthesia, UWS, MCS).
    • Collaborate closely with the surgical team to integrate brainstem functional evaluation with whole-body perfusion studies.
    • Develop and optimize functional assays to assess brainstem-body connectivity and behavioral output.
    • Establish and refine platforms for brainstem stimulation and real-time activity monitoring.

Qualifications

    • PhD in Neuroscience or a related field.
    • Extensive knowledge of brainstem anatomy and function.
    • Strong technical expertise in methods such as retrograde tracing, brain stimulation, and neural activity recordings and EMG recordings.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a track record of problem-solving, scientific rigor, and innovation.
    • Passion for pushing the boundaries of science and contributing meaningfully to ambitious, translational projects.

What We Offer

    • Direct influence on a moon-shot scientific program with clear translational impact.
    • Competitive compensation package, including salary and equity
    • Generous medical, dental and vision insurance coverage for employees and their dependents
    • Flexible time off and paid holidays
    • Access to a 401(k) retirement savings plan
