About the role

Unusual Ventures is hiring a Director of Marketing to oversee and produce content and communications for the firm and its stakeholders. This role will be responsible for brand content and communications, managing a cross-channel content calendar, producing blog posts and supporting thought leadership for the firm and its leaders. As the day-to-day communications leader, the Director of Marketing will generate brand awareness and affinity by producing thoughtful resources and storytelling that enables success for founders and the startup community.

Key responsibilities:

Content:

    • Manage a cross-channel content calendar for our brand and leaders
    • Produce and edit high-quality blog posts, thought leadership, in-depth content, case studies, and social posts
    • Refine our voice and maintain brand consistency across all channels

PR and Communications:

    • Manage PR vendor, overseeing press releases, pitches, award/speaking submissions, and contributed content
    • Own press relationships, monitor for proactive media opportunities, and staff interviews as needed
    • Manage campaigns and news events including new investments and hiring announcements
    • Support founders and portfolio companies with strategic advising and tactical contributions where appropriate
    • Source and maintain a bench of high-quality content and PR vendors suitable for retained and project work for portfolio companies

Marketing Operations

    • Manage Google Analytics, social analytics, Mailchimp, and other martech and analytics tools for consistent reporting and insights
    • Maintain an archive of all content (writing, video, tools/resources) for founders to easily utilize
    • Input content and manage day-to-day website updates in Webflow CMS

Requirements:

    • 7+ years of communications or marketing experience
    • 3+ years of startup experience
    • Experience producing web copy (blog, social, webpage) and writing/designing presentations
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to lead teams and projects among diverse stakeholders
    • Strong attention to detail, excellent work ethic, and entrepreneurial mindset
    • Experience with Google Analytics, social analytics, and generating weekly analytics reports and KPI tracking
    • Experience as a journalist or writer is a plus
