Ursa Major’s team moves fast and does a lot with little. Development engineers at Ursa Major are responsible for new product development testing/troubleshooting, or on-going product development aimed at performance or reliability improvements. Development engineers are also responsible for making limited design modifications to components in order to meet performance requirements.  We expect these engineers to be self-starters, good at designing and executing a variety of component tests and analyzing data to make decisions. Hands-on experience is required.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Design, build and maintain instrumentation and controls (I&C) systems for multiple rocket engine test cells at our Berthoud facility
    • Read and generate pipe and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) and electrical schematics
    • Specify and purchase instrumentation and controls hardware
    • Generate work instructions for new hardware installations, maintenance and upgrades
    • Design and assembly of automation cabinets
    • Integration of pressure, temperature, accelerometer, load cells, flow meters, valves, pumps and pressure controllers with data acquisition (DAQ) hardware
    • Tuning of closed loop control systems
    • Software development in LabView and Python
    • Troubleshoot I&C hardware and systems

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
    • 2+ years’ experience with facility design or operation
    • US CITIZENSHIP OR PERMANENT RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED
    • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA and NEC requirements
    • Proficiency in National Instruments LabView programming and Python
    • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial communications such as Ethernet/IP, Ethercat, Profibus, Modbus, RS485

Desirable Experience

    • FPGA and PLC programming
    • Performing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • System Safety and Hazards Analysis
