College graduate with 2-5 years of Mechanical Engineering Experience working for a heavy industrial company, Power Generation or in the Oil & Gas industry. This individual interfaces with client engineering representatives and other discipline engineers within the Valdes organization. May visit job site as required.

Responsibilities

    • Generate Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) for Oil & Gas processes and non-process utility systems
    • Review vendor provided documents including equipment drawings and calculations for compliance with project requirements
    • Develop simple process control strategies and draft mechanical scope of work document for Oil & Gas processes and non-process utility systems
    • Learn the requirements and expected content of a Process Design Basis
    • Specify specialty items and generate specialty item data sheets as required
    • Ability to analyze, design and generate engineering documentation packages for clients
    • Perform and document hydraulic, thermodynamics, heat transfer, material handling calculations and simulations associated with their engineering specialty
    • Review pressure relief valve scenarios, size, select, specify and design pressure relief devices, inlet an outlet piping and effluent handling systems including evaluation of the relief valve discharge reaction forces for the Oil & Gas processes and non-process utility systems
    • Set process design conditions and develop simple equipment and vessel process designs/sizes for the Oil & Gas processes and non-process utility systems
    • Review calculations, line lists, equipment lists, specialty items lists and simple equipment data sheets
    • Manage simple projects and develop man-hour estimates
    • Ability to manage time and schedule to stay with the project allotted budget and duration
    • Familiarity with design codes, client standards, industry guidelines and the ability to follow established design criteria
    • Develop and review specifications for equipment purchase or construction
    • Develop equipment schedules, performance parameters, general arrangement, options and accessories for mechanical equipment and components
    • Interact with equipment and system vendors and utilize vendor’s recommendations in the equipment selection
    • Coordinate engineering effort with other departments to achieve project milestones
    • On-site interface with client engineering representatives and other discipline engineers
    • Verify field conditions, constructability of designs, and assist in field surveys and resolving problems during field construction
    • Analyze, design, develop construction drawings for clients, and prepare specifications for purchase and construction
    • Identify out of scope work on projects
    • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

    • REQUIREMENTS
    • 2+ years of experience working as a Mechanical Engineer
    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future

    • Technical Competencies:
    • Knowledge within the Mechanical Engineering discipline specialty with the capability and the initiative to perform tasks with minimal supervisory/mentor assistance
    • Understanding and ability to apply basic fundamentals in Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer in various type of Plant utility systems
    • Technical skills and an ability to perform all aspects of mechanical design, including fixed and rotating equipment for heavy industries, Oil & Gas processes, material handling, plumbing, or HVAC
    • Understand when to seek additional guidance from the department manager, mentor or discipline lead on project/process issues and when to research the solution independently
    • Ability to communicate complicated issues in a simple manner
    • Understand PFD and P&ID symbology, layout, standards and workflow
    • Check P&ID’s modifications against AutoCAD standards for Oil & Gas processes and non-process utility systems
    • Execute P&ID walk-down efforts or field verification of P&ID’s and develop demolition P&ID’s
    • Develop, and maintain Drawing list, Line lists, Equipment lists, and Specialty Items lists
    • Familiarity with industry codes and standards
    • Read, understand, and utilize piping isometrics and plot plans in order to perform design calculations
    • Perform hydraulic calculations for vapor and liquid systems
    • Perform and document calculations that can be easily checked
    • Understand types of pressure relief devices, sizing calculations, and specifications
    • Develop simple equipment data sheets
    • Understand the hierarchy of documents generated and reviewed by mechanical engineer
    • Understand the typical instrumentation types and their principles of operation
    • Accurately check work produced at an Engineer I skill level
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills and experience using specialty mechanical engineering software such as AFT Fathom, PipeFlo, PV Elite, E-Tank 2000 and Trace 700.
    • Preparing for professional registration
    • Knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and basic knowledge of 3D AutoCAD
