Overview
Veloce Energy is seeking a Principal Embedded Controls Engineer/ Architect to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be a key member of the Power Innovations Innovation team. As an Engineer with programming experience, you will develop and lead overall hardware controls effort ranging from PLCs to PCB level embedded controls. This individual will also develop the controls and overall software design and architecture effort for hardware-based Grid Edge products developed by the Veloce Power Systems Team.
This key position will be tailored to the individual.
Job duties and responsibilities

- Develop and Lead the Controls Engineering Roadmap effort including PLCs, PCB level embedded controls, sensor controls, and Architectural Level security
- Lead the Controls programming for large Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and power distribution systems; Interface design/programming for API/HMI to BESS
- Maintain current understanding of relevant software, security, tools, standards, and relevant power/power conversion technology
- Enable Customer support for application interface(s) to BESS
- Lead the Electrical design sustaining engineering for BESS product (ECOs, variants)
- Lead and Develop additional feature sets and enhanced security protocols
- Work with cross functional teams consisting of mechanical, software/firmware engineers, and field engineering professionals
- Lead & Develop Design Verification and Test (DVT), End of Line (EoL), and associated regulatory testing
- Assist with preparation of user documentation for relevant APIs
- Mentor fellow engineers and Veloce teammates, work with cross functional teams consisting of mechanical, software/firmware engineers, and field engineering professionals
- When necessary, travel will be required to support units deploy at customer and field locations
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate expense reports
Education, Experience, Qualifications
- BSEE or equivalent field with 10+yrs of experience
- MSEE or similar (preferred) with 7+ yrs of experience
- Previous Technical Management/Supervisory Role: 5+yrs
- Relevant work experience involving controls or programming of power conversion/power systems devices required (Large or utility scale renewable, energy storage experience desired).
- Proficient in multiple high-level languages (C, C++, Pascal, etc.)
- Experience with embedded programming and PLCs
- Experience with Electrical Design Automation (EDA) tools (Cadence, Altium)
- Ability to apply Agile software development processes and relevant Project Management tools
- Has excellent software documentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork including an ability to work with remote and local team members, vendors and customers in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment; Ability to communicate clearly with presentations, use of email, online communications tools
- A valid driver’s license (or the ability to obtain) and an ability and willingness to travel as required
- Contribute to development and on-time execution of product and projects schedules
- Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork including an ability to work with remote and local team members, vendors and customers in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment; Ability to communicate clearly with presentations, use of email, online communications tools

Location
This position can be flexibly located. Frequent Travel to our Power Innovation Center in Fort Collins, CO, will be required.
