Responsibilities :
- Develop (electro-)thermal models for Li-ion battery cells, module assemblies, battery packs and their components
- Develop computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models for cell/module/pack cooling systems and safety events including thermal runaway and propagation, and couple with thermal electro-thermal models when needed
- Run electro-thermal, CFD and coupled CFD-thermal simulations on complex 3D geometries under both steady-state and transient conditions, and analyze flow properties and thermal behavior
- Support team’s thermal and CFD simulation activities for process simulation and in-house equipment development
- Perform surrogate modeling from full-order numerical models
- Analyze experimental data and validate model with experimental data
- Construct workflows and collaborate closely with product design engineers for CFD/electro-thermal analyses and design optimization from early stages of development throughout product lifecycle
- Develop/implement methods(experimental and simulation) for the thermal/rheological characterization of cell, module and their components, thermal runaway and other safety scenarios, and construct material/product database
- Review literature for the state-of-the-art methods for modeling, characterization, and CFD/electro-thermal analyses including thermal runaway/propagation and other safety scenarios
- Work closely with product development leaders to meet requirements of different projects according to project timelines
- Lead technical investigations, perform diagnostic analysis and prepare progress updates; participate in creating design review dossiers
- Take initiative for intellectual property development
Requirements :
- Masters or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics
- Specialized knowledge in fluid dynamics, high Mach number flows, multiphase flows, and thermal engineering
- Experience in-computational fluid dynamics and thermal modeling in the battery domain specifically safety scenarios(5+ years preferred)
- Strong background in numerical methods including (FVM, VOF, LBM, SPH, …)
- Proficiency in simulation tools (Ansys Fluent, 3D Experience, Open Foam, ...)
- Proficiency in scientific coding (Matlab /Python)
- Experience in and aptitude for hands-on lab activities
- Experience in project management
