The Opportunity:

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Cloud Operations Director to lead our cloud infrastructure and data operations. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our cloud environment, while driving operational excellence across cloud services, data governance, and team leadership.

You will oversee the design and optimization of AWS (and/or Azure) cloud environments, manage end-to-end data lifecycle processes, and ensure compliance with global security and privacy regulations. As a key leader, you’ll collaborate closely with engineering, product, and security teams to align infrastructure with business goals and performance requirements.

What you will do at VeSync:

Cloud Infrastructure Operations & Optimization
• Lead and oversee the daily operations of AWS cloud services, ensuring 24/7 system reliability through proactive monitoring, vulnerability patching, key management, and rapid issue resolution.
• Design, implement, and continuously optimize cloud monitoring systems to track performance, security, and compliance metrics in real time.
• Champion security best practices, focusing on compliance with global standards (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS), while driving improvements in network security, access control, and vulnerability management.

Data Lifecycle Management
• Manage the full lifecycle of encrypted data, from secure transmission (SSL/TLS, VPN) to safe storage (architecting scalable solutions like S3, Blob Storage), and ensure proper data disposal practices.
• Establish and enforce robust data usage policies to prevent misuse, leveraging tools like IAM (Identity and Access Management) and data masking techniques.
• Ensure strict adherence to data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, NIST) across all stages of the data lifecycle.

Database & Data Systems Governance
• Oversee the management and optimization of production databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB), focusing on permission management, disaster recovery strategies (backup/restore, multi-region failover), and performance tuning.
Design and implement high-availability architectures to minimize downtime, enhance data integrity, and ensure scalability.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues, optimize query performance, and effectively manage distributed database environments.

Cloud Architecture & Network Design
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design scalable and secure cloud architectures that align with business objectives.
• Optimize network infrastructure (VPC, load balancing, CDN) to ensure low latency, high throughput, and robust fault tolerance.
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies to future-proof infrastructure and improve scalability.

Team Leadership & Strategy
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing US-based data operations team, setting clear goals, hiring top-tier talent, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
• Drive cross-functional projects with engineering, security, and product teams to ensure alignment between infrastructure and business goals.
• Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to enhance both technical expertise and soft skills within the team, ensuring alignment with global best practices.

What you bring to the role:

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in cloud operations, data management, or infrastructure leadership, including at least 3 years in a management role.
• Proven experience working in large enterprises, tech startups, or cloud providers (AWS/Azure preferred).

Cloud Expertise
• Deep expertise in AWS/Azure services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Azure VM, Blob Storage) and cloud-native architectures.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates) and CI/CD pipeline management.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional level (or equivalent Azure Solutions Architect certification) is a strong plus.

Database Mastery
• Extensive expertise in relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB) databases, with experience managing distributed systems (sharding, replication).
• Proficiency in database backup strategies (e.g., Point-in-Time Recovery, automated snapshots), disaster recovery, and performance optimization (indexing, query tuning).

Data Security & Compliance
• In-depth knowledge of data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other industry standards.
• Proven experience implementing encryption (both at-rest and in-transit), access controls (RBAC, least-privilege models), and security auditing processes.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001) and regulatory audit processes.

Leadership & Cross-Cultural Skills
• Track record of building, scaling, and leading technical teams in the US market, with a focus on remote/hybrid collaboration.
• Strong cross-cultural communication and management abilities, effectively aligning global teams and stakeholders across time zones and regions.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, particularly in high-pressure environments.

Communication & Collaboration
