WHAT YOU’LL DO

The core metrics team is a new engineering team we are setting up in Viant. This team will own the metrics that are responsible for billable events that feed into reports, billing, and finance artifacts, and deal with data governance responsibilities including Accuracy, Auditability, Standardization, Compliance, Performance & Cost optimization etc. This team will handle petabytes of data using a variety of technologies and flowing through multiple systems.
 
The Team Lead role is a dual intent role that involves hands-on contributions as well as team management responsibilities.
 
As an individual contributor, you will be responsible for architecting and building core pieces of Viant’s billable metrics handling strategy. You will acquire a deep technical understanding of how data flows through Viant’s systems. You will serve as the technical lead working with a team of engineers to oversee the design and implementation of these interconnected services, ensuring that the system evolves to keep pace with the speed, scale and agility that modern day systems are expected to support.
 
As a people manager, you will hire, mentor team members and ensure they progress in the careers at Viant, collaborate with stakeholders from other teams as necessary and perform other people manager responsibilities.
 
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in scalable distributed systems and architecture, with experience planning, managing, and executing a technical roadmap to develop and implement significant and innovative data-focused products that are critical to the ongoing success of Viant.

THE DAY-TO-DAY

    • Own & contribute to major features & areas of the products
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams internally as well as customers externally to understand pain points and underserved needs to identify opportunities
    • Mentor engineers who thrive working in an innovative, user-focused, and fast paced environment
    • Drive performance, cost and operational efficiencies for the core metrics data.

MUST HAVE

    • 10+ years of professional experience in the software industry, including 2+ as a people manager and 5+ on data-focused projects.
    • 2+ years experience with Google Big Query.
    • Must have high proficiency in SQL and extensive experience in Big Data technologies.

GREAT TO HAVE

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or related field
    • Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms
    • Knowledge of relational databases like MySQL, Oracle or SQL Server.
    • Knowledge of modern programming languages, especially Java and GO
    • Knowledge of cloud based technologies, especially AWS, Azure or GCP
    • Hands on experience designing, building and delivering high quality scalable, operationally sustainable software
    • Ad tech industry experience is a plus

$180,000 - $220,000 a year
In accordance with California law, the range provided is Viant’s reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. Final title and compensation for the position will be based on several factors including work experience and education.
