As a member of the robotics group at Vicarious, you will play a critical role in our efforts to use our technology to push the state of the art on robotic manipulation.

As part of our team, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will oversee and guide the mechanical design of custom projects and new products from concept to production release. These designs will support robotic applications to include the integration of external systems, end-effector design, overall system-level design, and supporting subsystems.  You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, applications and research teams to create complete production-ready assemblies on schedule and within budget.

Your responsibilities

    • Mechanical design of the prototype, custom, and product assemblies
    • Support design workflow from concept to production
    • Generate complete design packages and documentation
    • Lead Engineering Change order process
    • Support fabrication and assembly of new designs as required
    • Participate in engineering build and validation cycles
    • Identify ways that hardware can improve the robustness and generality of robotic solutions

Background/Experience

    • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
    • Minimum of (5+) years detailed mechanical CAD drafting and design experience
    • Experience with electro-mechanical and dynamic assemblies
    • In-depth knowledge of best practices for part tolerance and dimensioning (GD&T)
    • Understanding of fabrication and assembly processes
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to think outside the box and bring innovative ideas for new products
    • Highly motivated and self-reliant
    • Works well in a dynamic environment as a team player
    • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred experience

    • Autodesk Inventor experience
    • Familiar with the risk assessment process
    • Robotics experience/exposure
    • Proficiency in creating detailed schematics in CAD (AutoCAD preferred)
    • Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (LVDT, dispense systems, temperature controllers, etc)
    • Experience programming Articulated robots are highly desired (UR, Kuka, etc)
    • Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc)
    • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired
    • Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
