The Laboratory Research Scientist will lead efforts to improve and develop omics-based assays, collaborate across departments to align with product goals, and contribute to scientific publications. This role requires expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, or analytical chemistry and experience with multiplex assays, sequencing technologies, and clinical research environments.

This is a lab-based, hands-on role dedicated to laboratory research and product development activities, data analysis, and scientific writing.

Key Responsibilities

    • Innovate and improve omics tests to expand Viome’s diagnostic capabilities.
    • Design, develop, and validate new omics-based assays for clinical and product applications.
    • Partner closely with Viome’s Product Development, Clinical Research, Bioinformatics, and Machine Learning teams to align assays with product objectives.
    • Engage with external collaborators to advance research goals and achieve high-impact outcomes.
    • Author and co-author scientific manuscripts, grants, and reports based on experimental findings.
    • Maintain detailed, accurate records of experiments, protocols, and results in electronic lab notebooks.

Qualifications

    • PhD or MS in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field. BS candidates with significant research experience will also be considered.
    • Minimum of two years of hands-on research in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or molecular biology.
    • Proficiency with multiplexed assays, particularly Luminex platform development.
    • A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
    • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies.
    • Clinical environment experience (CLIA/CAP/FDA).
    • Product development background.
    • Proficiency with Google Drive and electronic lab notebooks.

    • Physical Demands:
      • Must be present on site for all related responsibilities and be able to routinely perform activities as needed.
      • Must be able to sit and stand unassisted for extended periods of time.
      • Ability to handle and work with potentially hazardous chemicals per standard operating procedure.
      • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

      Mental Demands:
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Must maintain a high level of alertness and acuity for analytical review and processing of documentation, daily.
      • Able to work independently with changing priorities.
      • Highly organized with an attention to detail

$100,000 - $140,000 a year
