About the role
The Buyer- NPI & Sustaining plays a key role in supporting both new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining supply chain activities. This position focuses on executing purchase orders, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring timely material availability to support pilot builds, engineering runs, and commercial production. The ideal candidate brings strong organization, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in FDA-regulated environments.

How You'll Make an Impact

    • Procurement & Supplier Coordination
    • Review and convert MRP/MPS-driven purchase requisitions into accurate, timely purchase orders.
    • Track and update purchase orders for pricing, lead times, and delivery dates within the ERP system.
    • Communicate regularly with suppliers to confirm shipments, resolve delivery issues, and ensure on-time performance.
    • Support supplier ramp-up for NPI builds by coordinating long-lead part procurement and expedited shipments.
    • Collaborate with senior buyers and sourcing managers on vendor selection, onboarding, and performance tracking.
    • NPI & Pre-Commercial Planning Support
    • Work with planning and engineering teams to procure materials for prototype, pilot, and clinical builds.
    • Assist in tracking material readiness using offline tools and early-phase BOMs prior to ERP integration.
    • Support purchase execution for parts under engineering change or temporary revision status.
    • Communicate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Engineering, Quality) to stay aligned on NPI timelines and readiness gaps.
    • Sustaining Production Support
    • Ensure materials are available to support production schedules by monitoring PO status and supplier delivery performance.
    • Help manage inventory levels for raw materials and indirect items to minimize stockouts and excess.
    • Coordinate with manufacturing and warehouse teams to resolve receiving or fulfillment issues.
    • Documentation & Compliance
    • Ensure all purchasing activities meet FDA QSR and ISO 13485 requirements.
    • Maintain audit-ready records, including PO documentation, supplier quotes, and regulatory files.
    • Assist in collecting supplier compliance documents (e.g., SDS, RoHS declarations) as needed.

On Your First Day We'd Like You to Have

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Supply Chain, Business, or related field).
    • 3–5 years of experience in purchasing or materials coordination, ideally within biotech, medical device, or ISO-regulated environments.
    • Experience supporting procurement for both early-phase development builds and ongoing commercial production.
    • Experience working with prototype and commercial parts, including reagents, plastics, PCBAs, and indirect materials.
    • Working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite); PLM system familiarity is a plus.
    • Intermediate Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP); experience with Google Sheets and Docs.
    • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate across departments.

Salary Range

    • $85 per hour (Salary range for candidates based in San Jose, CA)
    • Compensation for the role is based on geographical location. 
    • Compensation also depends on a number of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
