About the role:
We’re looking for an inspiring Head of Engineering to lead our internal technology function. This is a critical role, driving our mission of creating smarter, safer and more sustainable cities. You will be responsible for 2-3 technology teams and principal engineers, overseeing the delivery of our infrastructure and one of our core product lines. You will embed a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence, providing strategic direction and upholding our core values.
Key responsibilities:
- You’ll be building, managing, coaching and supporting 2-3 tech teams and principal engineers. You’ll look to elevate the great talent that we have, actively managing performance across the team to develop quality over time. You’ll ensure that your teams have the tools and training they need to deliver, while fostering a constructive and collaborative working environment.
- You will help to embed the tech strategy into your teams and the broader tech department by engaging your teams and other stakeholders in a change management process. You’ll provide strategic leadership to your teams in line with this strategy, establishing clear goals and objectives that are aligned with the company and tech strategy.
- You’ll use data to guide your decision-making, and monitor and report against your team’s progress against their goals. You’ll identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- You’ll foster a culture of excellence and accountable delivery, providing timelines for releases and taking accountability for your teams’ delivery commitments. You’ll foster cross-functional relationships with our Commercial, Delivery and Product teams to ensure we’re delivering maximum value to our customers.
- You’ll provide expert guidance and oversight to your teams to enable them to make sound technical decisions. Your solid understanding of our tech stack allows you to evaluate solutions efficiently, while making sure that the technology you support is making a difference to the future growth of the company.
About you:
- You’ll have a coaching mindset, with previous experience managing engineering teams, and ideally managing managers.
- You’ll be adept at change management, and familiar with a scale up environment.
- You’ll be technically-minded, comfortable delivering projects and working in technical environments.
- You’ll be an excellent communicator and effective collaborator, with the ability to work cross-departmentally and influence senior stakeholders.
- You’ll be passionate about data and have a track record of establishing repeatable and scalable processes.
What success looks like in this role:
- Each team has a well-defined mission that aligns with the company’s overall vision and strategic objectives.
- Clear, measurable KPIs have been established for each team, providing a concrete framework for assessing performance and progress.
- You have a comprehensive and evidence-based understanding of how each team performs
- A clear, actionable plan for each team is in place, outlining short-term and long-term goals, resource allocation, and key initiatives.
