ABOUT US:
Volta Labs is building a suite of genomics applications for our first-of-its-kind digital fluidics sample prep automation platform. Our technology will remove the need for laborious sample setup, provide a technology-agnostic suite, and shorten sample processing time from hours to seconds. We believe our tech is the next step in unlocking the hospital of the future and will accelerate medical research by decades.

THE TEAM:
You'll join a team of innovative thinkers who love to experiment, collaborate, and win together. We are passionate about pushing the boundaries of automation, biology, computing, robotics, design, and user experience to benefit our customers and the world.

The Role:
We’re a startup, about to deliver our Instrument and platform to early-adopting customers this year. We’re choosing to manufacture in-house instead of contracting it out overseas to ensure quality and allow us to keep experimenting.

The Manufacturing Assembly Technician is one of the first hires for the Manufacturing team, and will be literally assembling, calibrating, and testing our Instrument from top to bottom. It’s a fairly repetitive role, and for someone who likes the challenge of piecing together a big puzzle every day that involves moderately difficult electromechanical systems, combined with the knowledge that your hands are building the tech of the future, it will be a great fit.

As the manufacturing org grows this next year, this role has the possibility to oversee a team of technicians and scale to Lead level.

Day to Day and Year 1

    • Building the Instrument, Testing, Calibrating, and performing Quality checks
    • Packaging and shipping the machine to customer labs
    • Add support building the consumables (simpler assembly, but more dextrous work) during downtime

    • Within 3 months you’ll… Complete onboarding, understand the product, and be able to competently build, calibrate, and test with little to no oversight

By 6 months you’ll… Have built and shipped the first Instrument to a customer, and be participating in logistics improvement cycles

At 12+ months you’ll… Actively support the growth of the Manufacturing team, and start stepping into a larger role as you mentor the junior technicians
Your Experience
Volta sits at the crossroads of biology, robotics, and engineering. To be successful in this role, you should have accomplished the below and be confident in owning each area on our team:

1. 1-2+ years experience in a manufacturing environment that involves assembling products with any combination of electronics, robotics, or mechanical components
2. Either: Completed a technical degree that covers electromechanical expertise OR have 2+ year of hands-on experience with assembling electromechanical products
3. Self-managed your day-to-day areas with minimal supervision, while completing tasks with high quality output and timely delivery
4. A strategic eye for ways to improve a manufacturing system

Familiarity with ERP and PLM software is a nice-to-have that supports future projects this role will own.

This is a full-time position that requires a significant amount of in-person work and collaboration onsite at our Seaport Office in Boston, MA. If you are unable to relocate or commute to the Boston MA area, this role won't be a match.
