Position Description:

We are looking for a Construction Engineer to join our Construction department to improve infrastructure in our Detroit/Taylor office. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in civil and/or construction engineering and at least ten years of water/wastewater heavy civil project experience. Excellent technical writing, organization and communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, able to solve problems across multiple disciplines and able to work well with others. 

Typical responsibilities include:

    • Act as the on-site liaison with client and community
    • Maintain excellent client relations
    • Conduct field inspections
    • Coordinate/communicate with contractors regarding construction project activity
    • Coordinate with Engineer of Record as needed
    • Review / edit / sign inspection daily reports
    • Monitor construction operations 
    • Organize and maintain construction documentation with cloud-based document control interface
    • Develop a detailed understanding of plans and specifications
    • Assist Project Manager with contract requirements
    • Review shop drawings, where appropriate
    • Help address Field Changes, as appropriate
    • Lead or assist with Requests for Information responses
    • Lead or coordinate claims analysis with project team members and client
    • Identify and help mitigate potential project risks
    • Develop retroactive or forward-price scope of work changes and/or claims by multiple methodologies
    • Review and interpret construction CPM schedule
    • Assist with recurring client or regulatory reporting
    • Attend or facilitate project progress, coordination or pre-installation meetings
    • Mentor less experienced project colleagues
    • Act as senior resource for field inspectors
    • Attend seminars and/or training courses
    • Maintain a safe working environment

Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in civil or construction engineering required

Skills/Experience:

    • 10+ years of water/wastewater heavy civil project experience required
    • Problem solving across multiple disciplines (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, etc.)
    • Document management which includes electronic filing, updating logs, coordination of revisions, etc.
    • Strong written and communication skills
    • Flexibility to complete tasks of shifting priority in rapidly changing project environment
    • Valid driver’s license
    • 40 Hr OSHA training preferred
    • Trench and Safety Training preferred
