Position Description:
Wade Trim is seeking a Substation Structural Engineering Summer Intern for our ICE group in our Michigan offices. Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil and/or electrical engineering (junior or senior status preferred) and possess valid driver’s license. Familiarity with Microsoft Office is required. Candidates must be self-motivated, very organized and have excellent communication skills.
This position will assist in the design of civil/structural components for electrical substation projects, including but not limited to, steel design, steel connection design, foundation design, and anchorage design, in accordance with governing industry codes and standards.
This position requires periods of intense concentration. This position is hybrid, with the option to be within a normal office environment, work fully remote, or a combination thereof. This position requires infrequent travel.
This position will provide exposure to structural design standards and codes, including but not limited to, AISC, ASCE, ACI, and IBC. This position may require the use of engineering software, including but not limited to, STAAD, MathCAD, and LPILE.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations
- Utilize finite element modeling and other engineering software to assist in the design of complex, multi-legged and multi-use, deep foundations
- Perform hand calculations to assist designs that cannot or should not be done using software
- Assist in the preparation of construction drawings
- Assist in the preparation of fabrication level steel drawings and bill of materials
- Assist in the preparation of construction specifications and project documents
- Attend site visits if possible
- Assist Project Managers
- Maintain a safe working environment
Education:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering
Skills/Experience:
- Valid Driver’s License is required
- Excellent organizational and communication skills are required
