If so, Walker Consultants is looking for an exceptional Structural/ Restoration Engineer in our Hoffman Estates office. We are looking for a detail-oriented, dedicated, and self-motivated candidate who has enthusiasm and curiosity for problem-solving and can work well in team environments.
Your time will be spent investigating, analyzing, and solving structural and architectural deficiencies involving existing buildings, parking structures, plazas, and other types of built structures. Your work will solve complex problems, many of which have no clear precedent and require fundamental and creative solution approaches. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of project managers, structural engineers, and architects to develop these solutions which ultimately add value and longevity to the built environment.

$65,000 - $95,000 a year
Actual salaries will vary based on qualifications, skills, and proficiency. Base salary is part of our total compensation package, which includes comprehensive health plans, generous 401(k) matching, bonus programs, time off, and professional development opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Perform condition assessments, investigations, field testing, and construction observations to gather field data, document existing conditions, and prepare field reports. You will have the opportunity to work on different types of structural systems, such as prestressed concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel, masonry, or timber
- Analyze field data and perform structural analysis via hand calculations or computer modeling to check as-built conditions or to perform strengthening design
- Prepare technical reports for clients that summarize your field investigation, analysis, and recommendations
- Work with a project team to prepare design documents, including project drawings and specifications
- Assist in project coordination and meetings with internal team members
- Review project submittals and shop drawings as part of construction administration services
- Perform engineering site visits during construction to observe the implementation of your design
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or better in structural/civil/architectural engineering from ABET-accredited institution (A Master’s degree and/or work experience in evaluation and repair of existing structures is preferred)
- EIT status preferred, not required; employees are encouraged to seek professional licensure
- Strong technical communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proficient knowledge and experience using Revit preferred
- Proficient in using MS Office suite
- Familiarity using finite element modeling software (SAP, ETABS, etc.)
- Ability to work in the office and in the field, including climbing ladders, walking on roofs, and riding on swing stages. This role may require occasional travel locally and outside the local area.
