About the Fraud & Risk Team

The Fraud & Risk team is responsible for helping Wealthsimple grow safely. We look to balance risk and customer experience: our mandate is to prevent losses while inserting minimal friction to customers across all products. We employ a multifaceted approach to detect, mitigate and prevent suspicious and unlawful activities.

We are looking for an experienced engineer who is excited by a greenfield project with the opportunity to design, build and deliver a better way to detect and report suspicious activities. The ideal candidate should be a self starter able to navigate an ambiguous environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Technically, the candidate is comfortable with at least one of these languages/frameworks Python, Ruby on Rails and/or Java/Kotlin. We extensively build and operate large-scale distributed systems such as Airflow, Flink, Kafka, Spark, etc.

Skills we are looking for

    • Extensive experience with Python, Java, Kotlin, Ruby or any modern language
    • Demonstrated experience working with data at scale using distributed platforms such as Airflow, Flink, Kafka, Redshift, Spark, or similar
    • Expertise in modern data modelling and ETL design, implementation and maintenance
    • Proven track record of delivering well-designed and tested backend services
    • Demonstrates good judgement under pressure both in terms of technical problem solving and collaborating cross functionally
    • Bonus points for AML and fraud domain expertise
